One of the most influential bands of the 70's and today. check out Neil Pearts drum setup then compared to now. Pretty simple to where he progressed with his setup now.

Despite 2112 being a keeper as a go to album for me forever; I still prefer Budgie in the high pitched 3 piece department. It's more that I'm pro-Budgie rather than anti-Rush, just to be clear.

I hear a lot of you fogies talking about BUDGIE!!! How is it they never got radio play? I'm curious, as that's high praise.
There's been quite a few bands that somehow escaped me then:
Fastway, Saxon, just to name two that I now love, so I'm interested.
Edited for clarification

Why don't they get airplay? It's simple really. The general public is either too stupid or too ignorant to listen to a bona fide power trio. They insist on radio stations playing talentless smurf poo like Nickelback and Puddle of Mudd because people nowadays are too idiotic to realize what good music is. People don't give Rush a chance because the talent in the band produces great music which people can't listen to because they actually have to pay attention to the songs. Where as bands like Nickelback only appeal to what seems to be the three needs in this perverted society: sex, drugs, and beer. Not that any of that is bad (well, drugs are), but they sing about it with such openness and tackiness. Plus, they get away with no "Parent Advisory" label where bands like Twisted Sister and AC/DC got slapped with the sticker in the 80's and received a tarnished reputation with parents in America.
So that's why Rush doesn't receive airplay.

One of the things that I really appreciate about them is that they're Canadian. We have so few greats in the rock and metal community. We're more than America's armpit!
For years, I HATED Rush because of Giddy Lee's voice. Then, one day this past March I heard a song of theirs on the satellite music station and all of a sudden LOVED them! I have only the first album and 2112 so far, but will be buying MUCH more as soon as I have some money. I'm eyeing albums like Fly By Night and Caress of Steel first. Any suggestions on the order of albums I get?

i don't know about back in the day, but nowadays, they get radio play from 2112 to Roll The Bones on classic rock stations.

I would have liked to see a then Fly By Night compared with a present Fly By Night. Wargod, you disappoint me!

Love Rush, maybe my favorite band ever. My sister had Fly, Caress, and 2112 back in 1976 and I have been a fan ever since. After seeing them Live in 1981 (for $7.50!!) I stepped it up a notch and became huge fan.

I don't know, and I'm still bitter about it. The rock encyclopedia that I used back in the 70's was so dismissive of Budgie that they didn't even bother to describe their music; so I wasn't even aware that I was missing anything. I liked the heavier stuff from Rush, but there wasn't enough of it for to make them a really satisfying listen for me. When I first heard Budgie I realized that they were the band that I always wanted Rush to be (heavier more often). I'm sure they got airplay in the UK, but not in the US as far as I know.

Rush is still just a vital and important than ever. 'Snakes and Arrows' is easliy one of their top 7 or even top 5 discs....
That's also not saying their older material isn't classic or great or whatever.... Because it is. I'm saying this disc is that good.... imho.
