Both albums are fantastic!
I have to say I agree with you!!! I think "The Scarecrow" is still my favorite, but these two would be right after that one for me!
And that could also change based on more listens!!!

I think WS just blows AOB away, maybe because there's more variety of singers and they all do such a great job. AOB is good but WS might just be my favorite Avantasia yet.
I found out that listening to AOB separate from WS makes it a much more enjoyable album as opposed to listening to them back to back.

Haha, I popped in metal opera pt. 2 tonight expecting a major cheddar fest having not listened to it since high school probably, I was pleasantly surprised. My favorite parts of the album are the super broadway sounding ballads. I wish there was more of those. Are the later albums more inspired by that? Or are they more euro power metal sound?
Does anyone have recommendations for broadway inspired metal? Or just good broadway soundtracks? I already love streets but this is literally my only other exposure to that style.

There hasn't really been any euro power metal left in Avantasia since Metal Opera pt.2.
I think Broadway Metal is indeed a better definition of what they play now.

Having listened to Moonglow now for a couple of weeks, I think it's more of the same, mediocre, Avantasia we got with Ghostlights and Mystery of Time. A couple of good tracks worth spinning, and then enough dull parts to lose my interest. And I can't grasp the story if there is one, despite reading the booklet.

The best track on the new album, in my opinion.

I couldn't get all the way through, it's more bloated, average songs that Tobias has fallen in love with. Agree the song you posted is good though. Last good whole album imo was Wicked Symphony.

I'm with you on the Wicked Symphony, and its twin counterpart Angel of Babylon too.

Wicked Symphony and Angel Of Babylon are the last Avantasia albums I've bought. Been thinking about catching up on them but for whatever reason, I haven't gotten around to it.

This is how I feel, too. WS was the last one I grabbed and I like it well enough but I feel like Toby is trying to become TSO.

I loved Ghostlights, don't see why it's not liked. This one took a while to get into but I now really like it. You guys need to get your hearing checked .

I think it's the mid-tempo, melodic and soft songs. They sound more like Magnum than power metal. And I like power metal more than I like Magnum...

I think you hit it Lari, he fell in love with the Magnum sound and move heavy in that direction. Must be working with Catley that did it.

I personally think it balances out. There are just as many heavy songs as there are mid paced and soft songs. For you guys it's probably too even and you want more fast paced, power metal-like songs, I can understand and respect that. For me, I enjoy the mix of fast paced songs, melodic mid-paced, and soft songs. I like the variety of the current Avantasia, not to mention the melody and memorability (Tobias knows how to write songs that stick in your head). If I want power metal , there are plenty of bands I listen to that provide that.
Obviously, I am alone in this opinion around here, but as long as I enjoy it, it's all that matters.

I don't know that I want more fast paced songs I just think he's changed course too much. Hey, you like them and that's cool, I like the Helloween era many people pan.
