Take away the vocal style and the timing (90s), Nickelback and Creed are just solid Hard Rock bands...no different than AC/DC or Def Leppard...fact.
People are hung up on the stigma that was created for the post grunge bands. Midwest housewife rock.
"Midwest housewife rock", you mean like all the 80s Hair Bands are now? Having the airwaves full of 3 Doors Down, Nickelback, Creed, Shinedown, etc is absolutely no different than when they were full of Poison, Firehouse, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, etc...it's the commercialized, mass-marketed Rock of it's time...

Glad to see Tremonti get some love here. Probably the biggest influence on my guitar playing. Again, I cant wait for this release. The new single indicates Tremonti is being allowed to showcase the guitar hero he really is. These guys not only write quality music they are amazing musicians as well.

Creed is leaps and bounds light years ahead of Nickelback if you ask me. The only similarity is there both labeled Hard Rock. Nickelback to me is pop music. Chad Kroger writes some of the worst lyrics I have ever heard.

I agree, Chad Kroeger writes juvenile 14 year old, I've never been laid lyrics!
His lyric writing is a joke!
I got to say though my wife loves them minus their teenage lyrics!

In the past i'm sure Stapp wanted the solo's toned down so he wouldn't be outshined by Tremonti. And their first album came out when solos were considered a no no.

Mark has always stated he wanted to bring the guitar solo back to Hard Rock. I like Marks quote "Kurt Cobain may have killed the guitar solo, but I'm going to try my best to bring it back." The man has always had the potential. In the past few years he is really getting to showcase what he can do.
My Own Prison had some amazing guitar work on that release. You can tell Tremonti is heavily influenced by metal. It is all over his playing.
Not a better guitarist in rock out there IMO.

oh yes, I played the crap out of those old Firehouse cassettes.....oh the memories...."Don't Treat Me Bad"!
This album is stunning to me. Its a pretty heavy album and once again Mark Tremonti proves to me why he is my biggest influence on guitar and his songwriting is amazing as well. This cd might actually grab some new fans as it doesn't have that radio friendly sound that most people thought Creed had. This album is just a guitar driven hard rock ride that doesnt let up..
Upon first listen this might be a top 3 album of the year maybe even number 1..
The local paper had a three word review of the new Creed in it earlier this week: "gluttons for punishment."
I always found comments like that ignorant. Creed is one of those bands people like to bash because they had instant success and it's the cool thing to do. " O no, I cant like Creed, because my friends bash on them." Is that there fault? ANother reason I find it ignorant is that most people that bash Creed probably own or have owned an album by them.

Possibly. But regardless of my feelings on Creed, I thought it was particularly hilarious because it reminded me of the famous "two word review" of the SHARK SANDWICH album in "This Is Spinal Tap".... "sh*t sandwich."

there are better ways to review albums then bashing and putting the music down. If you dont like it thats fine but these bands are making music they love playing. It takes a ton of time to record an album. For some people to sit there and type or say this sucks or they suck is terrible. If you dont like it thats all there is to it. Be respectable about it...
I saw them,"Creed" live a few weeks they still put on a good show, and sound good to me. Creed is one of theose bands people say sell out like Nickleback, or Three Door Down, well as far as I can tell they sell out night later night after night.
I can only guess the hate started with a Pseudo Christian Pretense followed by the huge success of the hit "Arms Wide Open" which Scott wrote about the way he felt about the birth of his son. After the success went to the bands head they decided they could no longer get along and asked Scott to leave and the rest of the band went on to become Alter Bridge which was mildly successful compared to Creed and Scott tried to do a solo album which was a complete flop. I think after visiting with Scott and and Scott Phillips (at different time by the way) after awhile the band realized they had a good thing at one time, so who can blame them for trying to recapture the magic? Are they the best musicians beside Mark Tremonti no, do they have a formula that seems to work, yes. I for one am glad they are back and have and will continue to support them with my money or encouraging words.
I think the backlash with Creed started for the reasons stated by 325ad, and most of the problems was mostly due to Scott Stapp. Stapp going on stage drunk and giving terrible performances during Creed's tour before their first break up. Apparently ego problems with Stapp got completely out of hand, so they disbanded, which most of been some huge problems if the band was willing to call a day and basically start all over as Alter Bridge with a new vocalist.
I am not huge Creed fan and personally prefer Alter Bridge but Creed's albums are not bad. I think they were unfairly accused of being Pearl Jam clone/rip off band, I can detect a slight Pearl Jam influence but I do not feel that Creed rip off Pearl Jam or any other band.
Creed are not considered a cool band and while I can't stand 3 Doors Down and Nicklecrap I do like the first two Creed albums. I think Creed are just one of those bands that will not get its due anytime soon, Creed could record this generation's Dark Side of the Moon and critics will stay say it sucks.
