Therein lies the problem. I don't mind acts/performers/singers like Donna Summer, in fact I like her, and have enjoyed her contribution to the industry. That being said, I will be very upset if someone like the Stooges or KISS doesn't end up in the R.R.H.O.F. from this current ballot. I would like to think that there was more of an onus placed on that of the committee regarding the noticeable contributions of all the bands that James Hetfield mentioned at the last awards ceremony. The committee over the years seem to have their own narrow minded musical utopian view, which is peppered with nothing but Top 40 music. Though I know this type of thought will reign supreme within this committee, and future committee's, I hope that the majority of those members have the foresight to see the contributions of Deep Purple, Rush, Scorpions, Judas Priest, Alice Cooper, Motorhead, Ted Nugent & so on...

Good point metalinmyveins, and I have no problem with non rock acts, such as Donna Summer, Abba, or even Madonna getting into the hall, and I personally believe their contributions to the music industry warrant their inconclusion into the hall.

The snobbery left over in regards to heavy metal/hard rock by some of these critics such as Dave Marsh and the rest is incredible and incredibly short sighted.

A lot of these bands that were once hated are now even lauded by the same magazine and critics that called them sh!t in their heyday. Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, , Van Halen, Aerosmith and even AC/DC have now been championed by Rolling Stone magazine for example, but back in the 70's and 80's that was not the case.

Critics have taken a second and third look at other bands from that period such as Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, Rush, Ted Nugent, and Judas Priest are being praised by critics and mainstream press.

I am almost sure that KISS will make it into the Hall, even if you are not a fan one cannot deny the impact that has made.

The nominees were announced. Is anyone surprised that KISS didn't make it?

Cool that Genesis got in...now they need to get ALL of Genesis on stage and perform "The Carpet Crawlers"...but they'll probably just do "I Can't Dance" and "Illegal Alien"...haha!

I think all the bands that got in deserve it, Genesis, Iggy Pop, The Hollie and Abba, but the fact that Judas Priest, Motorhead, Jethro Tull, Alice Cooper !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, and Deep Purple!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! have not been nominated speaks volumes about this brain dead snobs.

ABBA deserve every accolade that comes their way, god bless their socks!

Rattpoison, nobody is denying Abba's influence and their talent. Even if you hate Abba you can't deny their impact on popular culture, what I object about this so called Hall of Fame, is that in most cases it seems to be more about musical snobbery then actually considering bands that have made some lasting impact.

I like the Hollies but you cannot tell me that they have made a bigger impact than say Deep Purple or Judas Priest for example.

12/15/09: My rage this morning is beyond belief! Why I care so much I don't know? Maybe because I am a music fan my whole life and have always fought for the bands I love to get the respect (and airplay) they deserve. The R&R Hall Of Shame as I have called it has really lived up to that billing lately, but maybe never more so than what was revealed this morning. You see after being IGNORED for 10 years and not even being on the ballot, someone at the Hall voting group woke up this year and realized there was a band called KISS, that love them or hate them was one of the biggest bands in the world and influenced millions and sold millions of albums. Finally after being ignored for a decade, they were on the ballot, something many thought they would never see. Surely they would be a shoe in now that they made the ballot right? Well the R&R Hall Of SHAME gave us Kiss fans and the band themselves the ultimate diss when they did NOT induct them this year. This is mind blowing and insulting as not only a Kiss fan, but a music fan. This ox manur elitist group of idiots has gone way to far this time. Can you imagine looking over the list of people that they are putting in and saying they deserve it more than KISS?!?!? So offensive and clueless its really mind blowing! The people that vote on this are the same people that probably made fun of me for being a Kiss fan and tried to beat me up after school. I'm stunned, but I shouldn't be. Really, consider these jerkoffs where the same people that made Van Halen wait until it was two former members that were on stage in the debacle overdue induction. The same people that made Sabbath wait so long that Ozzy said take me off the ballot at one point. SABBATH, who invented a genre! When Metallica was nice enough to fly me to their induction this year I attended out of respect to them, but I did not step foot in the actual Hall. I was wondering what Eddie Trunk's thoughts would be on KISS not being elected into the R&R HOF, so Manny, thanks for posting. Eddie's feelings are dead on, regarding his thoughts on this latest travesty.....Now if Eddie only knew how to break up his cogent thoughts into something called PARAGRAPHS. Wow, when it comes right down to it, I can live with misspelled words and syntax errors, but I could barely get through what must have been the longest paragraph in human history. I think I have a headache now, so I will retreat to the medicine cabinet.
