| The Green Mile. I cried like a baby at the end of that movie. Shawshank was good as well, but not as good as The Green Mile. Stephen King is a good writer. | |

| Both are quality movies, but Shawshank for all of its utterly depressing/heart wrenching moments, ends with what might be one of the most uplifting moments in cinematic history. Shawshank is the one prison movie that seems to not only capture the horrors of daily prison life, but then the movie challenges the audience to understand what it means to be "Institutionalized". Shawshank also delivers on the prisoners themselves. The movie does a beautiful job in showing that not all prisoners are hardened criminals (good still resides inside some of these men), and that in some cases, prison truly can rehabilitate the most lost of souls. The single most important aspect throughout this movie was the word "Hope", and how that word endured, regardless of the obstacles that Andy Dufresne went up against. The Shawshank Redemption in every sense imaginable is a metaphor for all of our lives. It is about overcoming life's impediments, no matter how impossible!
Both casts were great, but give the nod to Shawshank Redemption on this one as well. The Green Mile had one big gun in that of Tom Hanks, but Shawshank had two in that of Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. The supporting cast, namely Bob Gunton as the Warden, was outstanding.
Give me Thomas Newman's score on this film anyday as well. The score can be heard regularly in many sports biopics that ESPN features, such as "New Fish", "Brooks Was Here", "Suds On The Roof", "Zihuatanejo", & the "End Title". Maybe the most moving piece of music in the film was "The Marriage of Figaro/Duettino-Sull 'Aria'' by Motzart, and Red's comments regarding what those ladies were singing.

I will give you that. It's always nice to have happy ending. Both are really great movies with great actors. | |

| Shawshank for me too. Seen that one a bunch of times over the years. Didn't really care for the film version of Green Mile, though I did really like King's original book. Anybody remember that when Green Mile was first published, it came out in six mini-novellas (one new installment every month or so) instead of one huge novel? That was pretty unique at the time. They've since been collected into one volume though. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| They're both really close for me but I went with The Shawshank Redemption because I think the story flows just a little bit better. And it has Clancy Brown in it. | |

| Shawshank is one of my favorites. Morgan Freeman is such a great actor and really makes his character real. |

| Shawshank is easily the better of the two. While The Green Mile is a fine movie, it for me anyway just lacks the visceral reality punch of Shawshank. The Green Miles use of the supernatural just takes me out of the movie a bit , while Shawshank has me hooked from beginning to end. | |

| I voted for Shawshank, but I do enjoy both films.
I really like The Green Mile (supernatural elements included) and think it's a very heartfelt film. |

I still haven't read the original novel, I spent many years reading only non-fiction and never caught up with the Stephen King stuff. |
