| It can be generalized that pretty much any extreme music or heavily underground metal group isn't going to "sell out" as they will either have seen what happened to metallica OR would never have gotten the opportunity to sell out with the kinda stuff they write.
Cannibal Corpse (They've only gotten heavier: listen to Evisceration Plague)
Slayer (They've never sold out, they just haven't came out with any real stuff that compares to their classic stuff)
Exodus (They've only gotten heavier)
Kreator (They've gotten far more proficient in songwriting)
Testament (Same as Kreator)
Deicide (They've only gotten faster)
etc etc etc | |

| I mostly like bands/artists that have such limited commercial appeal in the first place that "selling out" isn't an option. Either that or bands that continuously evolve (like King Crimson, Rush, King's X, Coroner).
Basically any group that can't be pigeonholed or easily categorized. |

- I agree that Deliverance didnt really sell out per se. Jimmy just wanted to pursue a different direction and was tired of speed. I mean, listen to "Learn" on up to now, nothing he did at the time was popular at that very time at all.
Tourniquet might of weakened a bit with Crawl To China but looking back, that album wasnt really like anything else at the time either. In Thru The Out Door was quite different than anything else Zep had done but in 1979 music did not even remotely resemble that album so it is safe to say Led Zeppelin didnt sell out either. Cant say the same for the band members' solo efforts however. I think that is what hurt D in the long run. The core fans all like the first 2, but did'nt like the change in the song wrighting. We all tried different things in the 90's,but it did,nt go over well with the fan's. | |
