| Saw these guys today (show review in Hurting Words section). The band sounds great...the vocalist is horrid.

| You know it's weird, I don't have any problems with "raspy" vocals (Lemmy, Udo, Matt Pike)...but the guttural stuff just turns me off. Makes no sense...but then again nothing about me seems to make sense. |

| DETUNED! I literally went from a guy who wanted NO PART of death and black metal vocals to a guy who....can at least put up with it now. Nah, I outright love some of the stuff. Gotta be jacked up on chemical additives to really vibe with the stuff though. If this is construed as some kinda endorsement for alcohol and/or drugs, then, so be it. That's how it was intended. lol. What happened is that I loved the ever lovin' smurf outta some of the death and black metal 'music' already and knew that I'd have to get used to the vocals if I was gunna listen to the stuff on any kinda basis.
My gateway drugs came in the form of two bands. OPETH for the Death, and AGALLOCH for the Black. Love the ever lovin' smurf outta these two outfits now. Both are most awesome. But, after I got used to them, I realized that I was now open to a bunch of other smurfs, like DEATH and BATHORY.
Now, I'm literally insane for 'technical' Death Metal, and, eh, a little mad for the Black stuff too. The tech/prog death is really what does it for a brother. Right now I be checking out Anata - The Conductor's Departure. Wow. And, believe me, there is tons of real crap death metal out there. So much that you'd drown in the stuff. But, if you give this here stuff some attention, you'll definitely see the genius of it. Maybe you should contrast it against the real crap to see the tremendous difference.
You can familiarize yourself with the Death and Black stuff through the two above mentioned bands:
http://www.last.fm/music/Opeth/Still+Life http://www.last.fm/music/Bathory/Blood+Fire+Death
OR, just jump right into the high end of the pool:
http://www.last.fm/music/Obscura/Cosmogenesis Obscura - Cosmogenesis http://www.last.fm/music/Anata/The+Conductor%27S+Departure Anata - The Conductor's Departure http://www.last.fm/music/Arsis/We+Are+The+Nightmare Arsis - We Are The Nightmare http://www.last.fm/music/Atheist/Unquestionable+Presence Atheist - Unquestionable Presence http://www.last.fm/music/Death/Symbolic Death - Symbolic
IF this is a new genre for ya, it surely will take a while. Indeed. But, the music is insanely good. DO ME A FAVOR: Please tell me if these LAST FM links work. Those that I posted look like they're giving access to the entire albums. Tell me if they work on your end. Then, do yourself a favor and drag these titles over to your desktop for repeat listening down the road. |

| I really like this band! The vocals and music are both great to me! I much prefer this thrash sound (modern, with elements of death and black) to the rehash-a-roma of the thrash bands coming out today just ripping the heck off Exodus and Testament. These newer bands aren't original. Pass! I'll take Skeletonwitch and bands like this that have their own sound and originality over these carbon-copy rehashes any day of the week! Looking foward to their new album! I crank "Beyond the Permafrost" pretty regularly. | |
