| Finally finished Stephen King's latest behemoth, "Under the Dome," last night. Great book. It was over 1000 pages but there was so much going on that my interest never flagged at all. After reading that beast I'm gonna need something short-and-sweet as a chaser, so last week at K-Mart I picked up a book from the seemingly endless "Mack Bolan: The Executioner" action/adventure paperback series. I used to love those books (and their related series - "Able Team," "Phoenix Force," etc.) back in high school/college but haven't read one in quite a few years now so it should be fun to get re-acquainted with ole Mack. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| Finished reading Me, The Mob , and The Music: One Helluva Ride With Tommy James & the Shondells. Really fun book. If done right it'll make a good movie. It also answers the question of how cutouts came into existence. | |

'Beyond the Law' with Charlie Sheen as a drug cop undercover in a biker gang. Don't know if it's based on a true story or whatever. Thought it sounded familiar though. Now that I think about it, wasn't that the same plot in 'Stone Cold' with former NFL clown Brian 'The Boz' Bosworth? _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. The Destroyer is the series for me Right now I'm reading Goldfinger by Ian Fleming. What I like most about the Bond novels compared to the movies, aside from Bond being a more well-drawn character, is they tend to be more of a slow burn before all hell breaks loose at the climax. Bond usually gets absolutely brutalized by the bad guys and finishes the story looking worse than Bruce Willis at the end of Die Hard. Also reading The High Crusade by Poul Anderson, a comical science fiction story imagining what would happen if a bunch of alien invaders tangled with medieval crusaders. It makes the wise point that having superior technology doesn't necessarily make one smarter or more adaptable to certain situations.

Yeah, I remember "The Destroyer" too. They turned it into an awful movie back in the '80s called "Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins." I used to read tons of those so-called "men's adventure" paperback series - "Nick Carter, Killmaster," "The Death Merchant," "The Specialist," "The Butcher," etc., etc. I think Mack Bolan and his associates are the only series that are still going strong today. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| I think Remo might still be around. I know a couple of years ago the series changed publishers and there was a bit more hype for the new novels coming out but I don't know if it continued. | |

You're right. Hadn't thought of that. The book is a true story from a few years ago but it would have been much better with the Boz. The ending is about as anti-climatic as humanly possible for an undercover story. At one time I liked "Stone Cold" but haven't seen it in years. May have to netflix it to see if it holds up.

Clark Ashton Smith is SOOOOO underrated. He does seem to get lost in the shuffle of Lovecraft And Howard. I've had his book Poseidonis since I was in 6th grade... my aunt gave it to me, I guess she didn't like it... I LOVED it.

| I love Howard and Lovecraft too, but Smith might be a little harder for people to get into because his vocabulary really makes you work over the dictionary and a lot of his stories had that dark, ironic humor to them. | |
