The 51st annual Grammy Awards will be broadcast live in high-definition TV and 5.1 surround sound on CBS Sunday, February 8, 2009, from 8 to 11:30 p.m. (ET/PT).

I personally don't care at all for the Grammy's and tend to think the whole thing is a big corporate joke. However, this is still good news for Judas Priest. Hopefully they will win the metal performance and not Jethro Tull.

I wonder what makes one song by the band eligible for the "hard rock" Grammy and another song by the same band eligible in the "metal" category...

i'm not a grammy guy, nor am i all that crazy about the last Priest album. however they certainly deserve the mainstream acknowledgment. Motorhead got it, Slayer got it, King Diamond almost got it. Priest should have it.

in the end it doesn't really matter though. Priest will go down as legends regardless.

There have always been Grammys for packaging, liner notes, etc. Although it's more common for box sets to get the nod on these.

When it comes to music, the Grammys are probably the most clueless bunch in the history of the universe. Last year Herbie Hancock won album of the year, which is great...except for the fact that it took them over 40 years to give him his due.

I pay absolutely no attention.

the Grammy Awards have got to be the biggest joke. Why would Metallica be in there? For album sales? That new album SUCKS and not even a slight bit, I mean A LOT! The new Judas Priest is the most boring album to ever be released! Ministry isn't metal, and Slipknot... uggghhhh.

There are countless bands that deserve this award if it had any credibility.

For the sake of METAL though, I do hope Judas Priest takes this award.

Whoever puts these bands in the categories really need a wake up call. Better yet, Corproate America needs a drastic overhaul along with the music business!

It's a case of "what Metal band have we heard of put out an album this year"...it always has been. It's never about art...it never has been...it's about celebrating artists who already have huge fan bases just to remind them how awesome (they think) they are..."Hey, Metallica/Justin Timberlake/Beyonce has sold ump-teen million records, let's give them a trophy too!!"

The Grammys are a waste of time, a bunch of ass kissing industry suck ups, alist of artist that have never won a grammy (none including that b.s. lifetime achievement award)

As far as being nominated, I think it is cool they are recognized regardless of for/against the awards. At least they are being recognized and not some crap band.

ahh the grammys...that time of year when all the self important people get to fight about who is more deserving of an award that means little...

Nice that Priest is getting some recognition, but otherwise meaningless.

it was for the song Never Ending Hill from the Give Me Your Soul album. he lost to Slayer.

Get ready to lose some faith in humanity, I am sure Slipknot will win, that way the Grammy folks can prove how hip they are by having such an 'extreme' metal band win a grammy.
