| This is probably a stretch but any fans here of the 70's mellow folk-rock band America? They are as mellow as all get out but man there's just something about them that just kinda grooves and mellows you out, ya know. They have been labeled as Crosby, Stills, and Nash Lite but I dont think that is such a bad compliment. I cant stop listening to them lately. Hard to believe the three guys in the band were 18, 19, and 20 when they wrote "Horse With No Name" back in 1970. My favorite track by them is probably "Ventura Highway" or "Sister Golden Hair" but I'm slowly finding myself liking everything I hear by them. any fans? | |

| I have their Best Of which is enough for me. Sister Golden Hair would probably be my favorite song by them. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

Same here. I had no idea they wrote songs other than "Horse With No Name" thanks to FM radio.

| My wife likes 'em. Good romantic stuff, right there with Manilow, Little River Band, and Gerry Rafferty. My favorite song by them would be "Tinman". I loved that song when I was a teenager and it still got a lot of airplay on the top 40 stations. | |

| Never really liked em, pretty snooze inducing. In "Horse With No Name" The rocks and things line has always cracked me up though, doesnt get much more descriptive than that. | |

That whole song cracks me up. There must be about three actual notes in the melody. The whole verse melody is only two notes. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| This is something I will never quite understand:
This thread is for fans of the band. If you dont like the band, then why do you post? Arent there plenty other threads to post in, like some Slayer or An*l C*nt thread or Vaginal Secretion or whatever you guys are into. Why must every thread be defiled by young punks who hate everything that isnt death metal or black metal. This forum is for evrthing that isnt metal. If you dont like music that isnt metal, go back to your metal forum.

| I've got an old Black Crowes vhs from back in the day which has various music and interview clips and there was one radio interview with Chris Robinson and the DJ asked Chris what he does when the BC aren't touring or working on an album and Chris of course being his difficult self isn't giving much away and the DJ says "Don't you ever sit at home and put 'Horse With No Name' on" and Chris gives the DJ this big "Not Amused" glare and says "I'd rather eat horse dung"!
And i guess i am also of Chris's persuasion with America.

| Stuff like America is more about nostalgia than about really awesome music. If I want to reminisce about my teen years in the eighties, songs like "Horse With No Name" take me back to cruising around in my 1975 AMC Hornet back in 1987. America is music to mellow out to, not play air drums and guitar to. America was a top 40 staple then, not oldies like now. | |

| I love America! Great 70's Lite Rock, which I love. I have the History album and I listen to it all the time, every track is great. When I listen to America it evokes good feeling of a warm summer day....ah . Did you know that the late great Phil Hartman painted the History album cover? His brother was America's manager at the time. I also have a live album called America and Friends: Live at the Ventura Theatre, which includes four songs by Andrew Gold, four songs by Stephen Bishop and five songs by America, plus it has a second disc that is a dvd of the entire concert, it's pretty cool and it was one of those $4.99 cds. Anyway great band. | |

| I remember listening to their songs on the car radio back when I was a child. It was one of those bands that had songs that you always remember, but never made the connection to the band. Later on however, I began to really appreciate their style. I love to slap on their greatest hits when I am traveling for long distances. There is something soothing about their tunes. I have a friend of mine who was one of the biggest grunge heads back in the early 90's, and I turned him on to America as well. I think they have been unjustly maligned. Good stuff. | |

Though my favorite song from America would have to be "Sister Golden Hair" or "Ventura Highway", I always thought the song "Tin Man" had some great lyrics to it. I think from a visual standpoint, I think this would have been a great video song in today's day and age. "Lonely People" has always been a good inspirational song as well. If memory serves me correct, I think these three guys met because their Fathers were in the Air Force, and the rest is history...
