| I kinda liked the new one. Much better than the last full-length or EP, in my opinion. I think, with Suffocation, the odd-numbered records are the best (not counting the two EP's):
Effigy Of The Forgotten Pierced From Within Suffocation
But that's just my personal taste...

- Iron Maiden - The X Factor
I'm still kinda on the fence about this one. When it first came out, I hated, Hated, HATED it with a passion, I traded it away after only owning it for a couple of weeks. But I recently re-purchased it (having a hole in my otherwise complete Maiden discography bugged me) and it's not nearly as bad as I remembered. Still not a GREAT Maiden album in my book, but better than I thought back when it was current.
I hated it too, but I've since grown to appreciate it. Still not my favorite Maiden disc, but I like the dark feel it has. No other Maiden disc has that same vibe. Supposedly Harris was going through a very ugly divorce during the X FACTOR period, and that combined with the falling out with Bruce, obviously colored the writing for that album. The band went thru a very rough couple of years there! I'm listening to X FACTOR right now ... great soloing but other than "Lord of the Flies," "Man on the Edge" and "Blood on the World's Hands," I still find this one pretty boring. As I said previously, it is better than I thought when I first heard it back in '95, but I'd have to say that it still ranks at the bottom of the Maiden pile. I like VIRTUAL XI better than this one. | |
