| Not to derail the thread, but when I listen to Coltrane I don't ever want to listen to anything else ever again. I love that man. | |

This move actually brings me back in, doesn't push me away.
Lou Reed may be an acquired taste, but the dude is a genius.
I am still a Metallica fan but I am huge huge Lou Reed man, and I agree the man is an acquired taste but the man is a genius.

I somehow get that impression also, but from reading that Rolling Stone blurb, it sounds this is more of a Lou Reed album then a real collabration, Reed has turned Metallica into the Velvet Metallica Underground.

| I think it's cool, I posted that blog on a jazz board that I frequent, they even got interested over there because of Reed's involvement. So, there could some interesting cross-genre exploration by different potential fan bases...
...as long as it doesn't end up like toothpaste and orange juice. Or Peanut Butter and Gatorade...

| interesting little article snippet...
From Monday's SF Chronicle gossip column:
And at Tuesday's U2 concert, Bono described a Bay Area dinner the night before as a G-3 summit of U2, Metallica and Green Day, talking about staging a music festival. The venue, The Chronicle's Paolo Lucchesi blogged Thursday, was A16, and there were more than three summiteers. The gathering included Lou Reed, U2 drummer Larry Mullen Jr., the Edge, Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong and Metallica's Lars Ulrich. After dinner, the movable feast continued at Rye.
Rumor has it that Reed was in Marin last week, recording with Metallica.
So, it sounds like they are planning the biggest "cross-genre" music festival in my recent memory. Take the combined fanbase of U2, Metallica and Green Day and figure out how much money THAT could rake in.
The mind kind of staggers at the thought. (not from a musical perspective as much as, holy crap, you'll be able to see that concert from space!)

Ever had cranberry sauce and milk? Whoo. Nasty. I like each alone, but if you eat some cranberry and then drink milk...
