Henry Rollins is an icon to me. So, I'm spreading the love. You probably hate him. I don't really care. Maybe one day I'll be lucky enough to see him as my good friend Saxy has.
Enjoy!

.....I like his BLACK FLAG material....early ROLLINS BAND is okay...
But as for listening to him, spoken word...whatnot. Ugh.
If he didn't sound like such a condescending schmuck I'd appreciate his tales and stories more...But he always struck me a ultra smug and I hate that.
Now I formed this opinion in the early 90's...and have watched his talk show in recent years and he seems to have "calmed" himself a smidge, was not quite the "its my opinion or none" as I felt he was earlier, but he still annoys me...
I'll dig out my STEVEN JESSE BERNSTEIN cd when I want to hear spoken word...

I'm a big fan of Hank. I've read just about all of his books, watched his spoken word performances on DVD and have most of his Rollins Band cd's. The only thing I'm missing is his work with Black Flag. I like what I've heard, but I never find any Black Flag cd's in the used bins.
My biggest criticism of the guy is that when he does choose to act in a movie, it's usually the shittiest movie ever. Of the very few times I've seen him on film, I can't get through the whole movie. Terrible choices. But as he's said in books and on talking tours, he does them strictly for the paycheck. He'll save his artistic integrity for other outlets.
I've found that most people love or hate him, no in-between. I'd like to see him live one day, but whenver he come to Philly, he plays in a really small theater and it sells out within minutes.

I liked him in Wrong Turn 2, although the acting was pretty terrible. It was just fun seeing him onscreen.

Back in my single-still-working-out-black-tshirt-angry-young-man days, a co-workers once said I was the Henry Rollins of the office. I took it as a compliment.

Thanks Spec. Killer 15 minutes to wake up to!! I would have done a thread like this, but I'd didn't want to seem ultra smug.
You could have picked a better BF vid though. That one had to be one of the very last shows Flag ever played. You could tell they were ALL totally not into it. Even the crowd was more metal than punk.
No, seriously, I have said it before - My main influences and inspirations are Christ, Marley, and Rollins. They all pretty much did the same things, just did it differently.
If anyone wants or needs some good starter Rollins/Rollins Band/Black Flag material to form your own opinion, get ahold of me. I got to go now. I have 1500 miles to drive to get to Harrisburg to kick someones ass.

Yup, getting married and having kids will do that to ya. I really regret those cat paw tattoos.

It's a dress. I find that pants can be too restrictive. I like my junk swaying in the wind. It's very refreshing.

Sax, Have you ever actually met him? I know you have seen him live.

No. Usually he gets off stage, on the bus [or car, depending], and to the next show. Alot of the time he'll do a show in the morning for a college, then a theater at night. But once you have seen him live, in any setting, it is like you already know him personally. He connects with his audience like no one I have ever seen [except King's X, musically].

I liked him in Black Flag. Could never get into Rollins Band or his spoken word stuff.

Exactly what I was going to say (except I love Black Flag). His spoken word stuff is BOOOOOOOOOOORING! Sure, the dude can talk, but it takes him 20 minutes to make his point. By that time I'm snoring.

Very cool. From someone that's seen King's X on every tour since 1990...sometimes multiple dates per tour...I wholeheartedly agree with that.
I'm a huge Rollins fan as well. I've only seen him at a spoken word performance but it was a great experience. Recently I've been spinning this album quite a bit...

A lunatic goes around the east coast in a bunny costume, kicking everyone's ass that disagreed with him about Henry Rollins. That would make Sundance for sure!

The Heart of Metal forum is Heavy Metal and Hard Rock. Where would you put it?
