Metallica Is Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I swear from the first song I had a HUGE shinola eating grin on my face. I'm only three songs into it (I will listen to the rest later, after I relax) but it is more than worth the price I paid (<$10 @ Wal-Mart) for it. To me St. Anger sounded like a desperate attempt to regain old fans. IMO it seems that they thought all they had to do was speed it up and lay back on the production and we'd come crawling back. This time it sounds like they actually made an honest attempt to reach out to old fans and the result was much, MUCH better. The production (as usual) does not mean much to me but I do have one minor complaint. Is there or is there not any bass in this? I couldn't hear any. Robert Trujillio is one of the best bass players I ever layed ears on and should be a highlight of this album but it's almost non-existent thus far.

The bass is there! It's lower in the mix on some songs, but there.

Yes it is. UA was a masterpiece, but DM isn't bad.

Easily couldve been the follow up to ...And Justice. But, I dont find it as impressive as it was built up as.

What were you expecting, "Master of Puppets II?" Come on now. No matter how hard a band tries, they can never reach their musical peak ever again. For all the hype it did receive, there was no way this would be their greatest album.

Just be thankful it isn't "St. Anger II."

I didnt really like Master Of Puuppets, so no. Smile And I wasnt expecting anything really amazing either, it sounds good, I just think they're done with.

I've never been one to listen to trends or other people (much to my detriment in important issues), to me this album is the best that they have ever put out. And I enjoy just about everything they have put out except for St. Anger.

Which of the 142 different versions did you guys buy? I just bought the one with only the music, and the jewel case. I'm so lame. Anyone get the coffin edition?

Yea I pre ordered the coffin. havent gotten it yet though. I heard in the UK theirs didnt come with the cd or the lithograph that was suppose to come with it. Pretty funny.

I got the jewel case version at Newbury Comics. They gave me a free beer glass and 2 pins. (Yes, pins, not pints.)

With every album there is some hate, even if it may be the best thing ever.

I tried to get the Coffin but Best Buy didn't have it anywhere in the store so I just got the jewel case. Overall I'd say it's pretty good.

like Maiden's "A matter of life and death". I still haven't listened to that one all the way through. Other complaint: while I'm glad they've returned to doing guitar solos, most of em' suck IMO. Just listen to the one on "the day..." The Official Metallica - Death Magnetic Thread - Page 31 19976

I got the digi version when I got it in the mail the other day from the tickets I ordered for their show. I wonder which version is in the box set.

In addition, here's a comment from Ted Jensen, the mastering engineer for Death Magnetic (this copied from the Metallica message board):

Thanks for writing.

I’m certainly sympathetic to
your reaction, I get to slam my head against that brick wall every day.
In this case the mixes were already brick walled before they arrived at
my place. Suffice it to say I would never be pushed to overdrive things
as far as they are here. Believe me I’m not proud to be associated with
this one, and we can only hope that some good will come from this in
some form of backlash against volume above all else.
