| I was hoping for that. But in all honestly, I really do like it better. I know I've said this before: Master is WAAAAAY overrated. Certainly not bad but not "TEH GREATEST ALBUM EVARRR" as some would say. | |

I haven't heard the new one yet (it's in the mail) but I agree Master is overrated. Just not really my thing. In fact, I think the whole Metallica catalog is overrated. People act like this is the best band to ever walk the planet but I can name about 100 hard rock and metal bands that I like better. NOW the flamewar can commence. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

IMO those 4 albums are some of the best in metal and I cant really name that many metal bands that have put out 4 straight cds of there caliber.

| Better " Master of Puppet" ? I admit "Death Magnet" is good but not that good, maybe you are burn out on hearing the album or just burnt out on arm chair critics like myself praising the album to the stars, IMO " Master" is the best Metallica album in their discography, that being said who knows how high " Death Magnet" will rate with metal fans and critics, it may not be better than Master but it is the best album they have released in 20 years. | |

MOP is one of my favorite albums, period. But I won't flame ya for not liking it. I do agree that some of their catalog is overrated, I think MOP is by far and wide their best release. Kill, Justice and Lightning are very good, but I'm not a freak about'em. On the other hand, I think Black is very underrated.

| I got it and after one listen I like it. It's definitely a nod to the fans of the old(er) stuff. I hear a nice mixture of the 80's Thrash and The Black album. I don't get all the complaints about bad sound....but I don't have a good ear for that stuff. Guy sitting next to me at work was very impressed as well. | |

| I'm convinced. Metallica is now the most disorganized metal band in the world. Listening to the "Guitar Hero" mix now, which for some retarded reason is BETTER than the retail version. But why the hell is there more than one mix? This band has too much power in the studio. They need a metal producer that will say, "No, Lars! Sit down!" |

Actually, I learned a couple interesting facts about this today. 1. Metallica wasn't in the studio for the final pre-mastering mix, they were touring...they left it in the hands of the mixing engineer Greg Fidelman (who is the guy that needs to be shot). 2. The reason there are 2 mixes is because Guitar Hero can't use a stereo mix to create the game. They need everything separate. So they get tracks with drums, bass, left guitar, right guitar, vocals...all separate. The Guitar Hero engineers then create their own final mix from those elements. That's why the levels are different (more orchestra on Unforgiven III, some vocal effects not on the CD version, etc) and some of the final mix choices are different - no fade-in or fade-out on Suicide & Redemption. If it wasn't for the HORRID distortion, some of the CD mix choices are better, but this really needs to be fixed and reissued in some format by Metallica. It's embarrasing. |

| I like the album a lot more now than when i first got it. It's not a 'favorite' or anything, but it's certainly a stellar album.
However, i really wish they'd left 'The Unforgiven III' as a b-side or something. It's the only song on the album that sounds like a 'throw-away'. It really pisses on the flow of the album for me, to the extent that i've burnt my own copy (from my original!) without this song.

I mean, I don't think the drums sound all that great, but it's nothing that makes me go "OMG THIS ALBUM SUXXXX!!!!11!!1!" You should go check out Metallica.com's forum. The threads are wild and HILARIOUS. People over there are about to come chasing after Metallica & Warner Bros. with torches and pitchforks over the production. And I just sit and go .

| Anybody read the review of Death Magnetic in Time?? Basically, that guy says it's their best....... .ever!!! Now, I like it....but I'm not willing to go that far. He also says their peak was the early 90's. Commercially....yes....but I wonder how familiar he is with the 80's material?? | |

| If you guys did a side by side comparison between the CD release and the GHIII version you'd definitely hear the difference. You will also actually hear the bass guitar... |

It's hardly even worth acknowledging reviewers like that. There's an article out there detailing Metallica's acheivment on having five albums debut at #1, saying they're the first hard rock band to do it since Led Zeppelin, who had seven. Hello? Hard rock? Nonsense. Why can't they be the FIRST metal band to have five albums debut at #1. Apparently they're the first "hard rock" band to do this with consecutive albums. But still, first hard rock band? Pfffft! |

| Well, there are many people out there (the un-initiated) who don't know there's any difference between hard rock and metal.
Hell, I can't even count the number of arguments over the years about which bands are "metal" and which bands are "rock". |

Hell, I can't even count the number of arguments over the years about which bands are "metal" and which bands are "rock". Sometimes it's not even worth mentioning because the band is close to the edge. But in the case of Metallica, at least on every album besides Load and Reload, they're clearly playing heavy metal. It's not even close to debatable. Of course, when you've got a loudmouth like Lars calling Metallica a hard rock band, I guess it's easier to think that. |
