Why does Tool seem more popular than Dream Theater?

Im not a big fan of either band really but I must say James LaBrie's vocals sound awful to me and James Maynard Kennans don't so for that I'll take Tool over Dream Theater at least vocal wise but both bands have uber-talented musicians and I think if Dream Theatre found a diffrent singer and toned down there technical side and started just wailing they could easily become one of the best bands ever. I know lots of people who dig DT but I could never get into them

I'm not much of a Tool fan either but the handful of songs that I've heard I liked
