Austin's disciples of the riff find themselves a new label home at Razor & Tie and pair with producer J. Robbins (Clutch). Hipsters and Heshers should expect to be floored. "Apocryphon is a fresh start for us," states lead guitarist Kyle Shutt. "We're on a new label and have a new drummer, but musically it's a culmination of everything we've done up to this point and, to me, is a reflection of everything we've been through the last couple of years. It's gritty and mean, and I think J. Robbins really helped capture our attitude."
Hurray! These guys get it.

| Yeah, they are great. I saw them live in Austin before I picked up any records (opening for Clutch) and they blew me away. I'm happy to hear they think their sound has been captured on the new one, the first couple albums didn't really nail the energy these guys put out in a live setting (Warp Riders came close).
I hope the new drummer is good, he's got some big shoes to fill, that was one of their strongest points.

| I still laugh when I think about the guys from The Gates of Slumber getting so angry with me for liking them. The singer for Solstice threatened to kill me! Haha.
But yeah, great band.
Also poseurs. Rich kids whose rich parents bought their record deal. According to the aforementioned turds.

| There is also a difference between trying to be "hipster" and just actually being f*cking hip. The Sword falls into the actually hip category.

- What the issue is, was and always will be is the fact that it was not a signing. This band was cooked up in a lab, given a history and sent out to make money for Walt Disney. This is where you really show that you have no ethics or brains at all. One second you are bashing corporations and the next you are defending them shoving their Fuckenstein's monster on the world. This is clear to anyone who can read. No, Fuller, just as you can not un play Greenday's shows at Gillman St. and The Sitcom you can not create demos by The Sword that no one heard.
That's a quote from the singer of The Gates of Slumber. This thread was like 45 pages long, where a bunch of these "Circle of True Doom" turds just talked out of their asses. For instance, I bought The Sword's second demo a year before Age of Winters came out. But these clowns were convinced they didn't exist. Bunch of morons.

| I listened to one of the Gates Of Slumber albums and thought it was pretty damn mediocre, so I'm not really that interested in hearing them talk about what's "real" or not.

| Some of the reviews of The Sword over at Metal Archives are pure hilarity with titles such as, "A conspiracy against us," "Leaves a nasty taste in the mouth," and "It's hip, it's happening, and I don't give a sh*it." DUR DUR DUR. I remember rumblings like this at the time but I paid zero attention to them. Do people actually think that there's enough cash in Stoner/Doom Metal that a band would actually not play it if they didn't like that music? Baffling. | |

But...but...they played SXSW before having a record out!

| I know. But that was the kicker for them; that's what convinced them this was a "lab" band. | |

| Sounds to me like Gates of Slumber and those other bands were just incredibly jealous of how much better The Sword is.
I could care less if they were a "lab band" or if they paid their dues for years...the only thing that matters is the end result.

This is why I always get a kick out of metal conspiracy theories. "They're not about the music, man. They just want all that money there is in playing metal!" Yeah, rich heavy metal bands are all over the place these days. I can't turn on the radio without being drowned in kick-ass metal and the live shows always sell out in a minute...

| Yeah, the Sword. I actually still haven't heard a single song by this band.
I've been meaning to get into them. I even ordered the bundle that had their first two albums packaged together with a very reasonable price. But the online store I ordered it from ran out and then other stuff came up and I never re-ordered.
