You are 15 years old, boy. You haven't had time to create a lifestyle yet!!
Just wait 15 more years and let's see what you call it then! well, i'm 30. my hair almost touches my belt, i have a leather jacket, tatoos, band shirts, & yes even a bullet belt with a pentagram buckle. i still do not consider heavy metal to be a life style. nor a "brotherhood", nor any of that garbage. it's just music to me. _________________

| It's just a fad, it won't last, it will fade. Soon, I'll want to listen to Michael W. Smith, Amy Grant and Toby Mac. I'll search out there old stuff and collect it with enthusiasm. I'll find contemporary music trading sites and stuff, and spend all my time learning about them and Sandy Patty. Can't wait. | |

| I don't see it as a lifestyle or a fad. I agree with MC, it's just music. I dress in band shirts and have long hair. Metal is not the only thing I listen to, and I'll hook up with a girl that doesn't like metal, it's cool if she does, but I don't mind. | |

| For me it's my lifestyle and always will be. I still have long hair (see avatar) and wear almost nothing but band shirts. I really have zero respect for metalheads who cut there hair short just to fit in to the business/corporate world as many seem to do. If YOU really like short hair then that's different. With that said I do listen to some other types of music and see nothing wrong with that. I've had so many friends do a 180 now though that's it's just sickening. I can just see some of them now singing along in their suits and tie in the elevator. | |

| metal is my heartbeat! true that my musical tastes have expanded -freaking spiderwebbed all over the place - but METAL is my main love as far as style goes and always will be. seriously though it cracks me up to look back on all the dumb drama from junior high & highschool days. people calling each other wanna-be's and such. LOL...I don't think I ever went there. I wonder how many of the people who had attitudes and were jerky about it, are even still listening to ROCK now, let alone metal!!! a friend of mine told me I would 'grow out of this' when I was 18 or 19. I told him I wouldn't. and I haven't, and I WON'T. woot woot. >^-^< |

| Anybody that is between 25 and 55 and its posting on this forum and think its not a lifestyle they should be asking them selfs, why not??? Its a lifestyle if you are posting here. Why???? The cuestion would be: WHY ARE YOU HERE AND WERE ARE ALL THOSE MILLIONS OF METALHEADS FROM THE 80S beginning of the 90s????? They just liked the music or it was in the fashion, but you love it so much that you want to talk about it on this forum and that make it look like a LIFESTYLE, like it or not. 7thsecond, you are very much like me. HAIL TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | |

I cut mine becasue I grew tired of it. It ws also worn out after 10 years of dragging across a dusty concrete floor (alias my workplace). _________________

I don't think he's saying he's trying to look 34. The demands of the work world make some cut their hair. If you don't understand that I can't help you. Hair doesn't make you metal. If you can find a job and keep long hair that's great but not possible for everyone. |

Yikes! I give you a pass. Haha. Seriously though, like I said I don't have anything against a metalhead that just really likes their hair better short, but most I've known cut their hair for entirely different reasons ("want to look more mature and fit in", etc.) and that just don't cut it (pun intended).

| No worries, but the realm of workdom and the whole wanting to eat thing means some make the tough choice to chop the locks. Metal is what you are inside. |

cut there hair short just to fit in to the business/corporate world as many seem to do. That's a narrow view. For some it's not really an option. My hair does not define me!! Work, male pattern baldness, wife.....many reasonable and legit reasons to cut one's hair. Nothing geekier than bald on top but a super-long mullet. Sometimes long hair just isn't practicle. I still rue the day I cut mine. However, I now have a number of reasons I can't grow it long. Work demanding it is #1.

| It's funny how the metal look is either metalheads with short hair are often critisized, but metalheads with shaved heads aren't. That's even less hair.
It's the music, man. Do what you want with your hair. As long as you can appreciate a good tune for what it is, you're true metal (and rock'n'roll). |

I would think those who work in the corporate world and still love metal are just as 'metal' as anyone else. Stereotypes are for those with no imagination or appreciation of how people enjoy the music. I can love metal every bit as much as anyone else, wear casual clothes to work and work at a desk. The music is what matters - not the image or the clothes. If its all image there are some boybands out there you might enjoy hooking up with... Alex _________________

| Just my opinion here, but as far as the hair thing goes, I think it sucks that ANYONE need change their appearance to appease someone else for a buck. Or appease their spouse. Or appease their church. It's BS! If the world can't accept you for who you are, too bad. And it is weak if you change anything about who you are, just because someone (or society in general) tells you you have to. I work in the legal industry, own a multi-million dollar company, and have the respect of some of the most high profile attorneys in the Twin Cities - all with hair past the middle of my back. And if they did not respect me, I would tell them to blow. Lifestyle? Yup! But not just because I have long hair. Metal and Hardcore have taught me to be "Metal" and "Hardcore", attitude-wise, in all things in my life! And it has been THOSE philosophies and that garnered any success that I have achieved. Whether that success be financial, marital, personal happiness, whatever. Thusly, lifestyle. Though, my path is not for everyone.
And Ted Nugent sucks! |

You're very fortunate to be in that situation Unc, and I'm sure allot of us would envy your point of view, but the sad truth is that if it came down to getting a haircut in order to feed my family, well, it's off to the barber shop I go. I'm lucky that I work in the art field, where long-haired freaky people are generally accepted for who they are and if I could grow my hair long, I certainly would, but as stated above, it's a hella-fro mess of epic proportions.
