| It's always interesting to see the range of music genres that rockers and metalheads listen to. I started out as a very stubborn AC/DC fan who felt unfortable when he first heard KISS' "Unholy" (it sounded to satanic and evil to me at the time). But, I developed broader tastes. Now, (and compared to a lot of the members on this forum, my collection is tiny) I have a cd collection of over 500 albums ranging from Eagles, Oasis, Clapton, etc (softer) to Slayer and Pantera (well, you know).
What are your genre extremes in your collection? |

| I think the most drastic genre clash I have in my collection is how my Behemoth "Demigod" album sits next to my Curtis Mayfield "Superfly" on my CD shelf. Black/terror metal next to 60's funk, Wow. Variety is the spice of life. | |

| Just looking at the "E" section, I see Entombed right next to Enya. But I'm not mister eclectic like some people here. The three largest sections in my collection (by far) are Psych/Acid rock, Hard Rock, and Melodic/Power metal. | |

| variety: heavy metal (iron maiden), thrash metal (anthrax), death metal (carcass), rap-metal (rage against the machine), metal-rap (judgment night soundtrack), and baloney metal. just kidding! i like lots of kinds of music. there's something to like/learn from in every genre. some examples in my collection: -classical (nigel kennedy) -jazz (django reinhardt, john coltrane) -country (randy travis, johnny cash) -punk rock (black flag, bad brains, bad religion, minor threat, the clash) -what used to be known as alternative before the 90's killed that term (fugazi, pavement, guided by voices) -buttloads of canadian indie rock (destroyer, sloan, new pornographers, hayden). metal is just one of many tastes, and really not the dominant one! |

| I have several extremes but the first one off the top of my head is Debbie Gibson and Deicide. My brain loves both. |

| "Unholy" is my favorite Kiss song! My tastes are extreme. I can listen to Ani Difranco and Edge Of Sanity back to back. How about a quick shuffle on my MP3 player. These are the ten songs that pop up: Before The Dawn - Vengeance (gothic doom-death) Kottonmouth Kings - Leave Us Alone (rap) The Gathering - Black Light District (atmospheric rock) Big B - Your Friends (rap) Rehab - Sittin' At A Bar 2006 (rap) Iced Earth - A Charge To Keep (power metal) Warren Haynes - Kiss Tomorrow Good-bye (rock/blues) Therapy? - Denim Demon (alt-rock) Demons & Wizards - The Gunslinger (power metal) Charlotte Martin - Melissa (female vocals/piano) Quite a mix. |

Wow, I thought I was the only one that owned anything by these guys! I saw them before they had a record deal at The New Daisy in Memphis back around 1990 or so. | And as usual, because he was a black guitar player, he got tagged as the next Jimi Hendrix. Same thing happened to Jon Butcher. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Out of curiosity, I looked Eric Gales Band up on Amazon. I didn't know they had an album out last year. I have the S/T, Picture of a Thousand Faces and That's What I Am. Didn't know this Psychadelic Underground even came out.
Ordered it! _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

In his case I think it was more than just his skin color. He made his guitar sound like a living thing. Look, we've hijacked this thread. :geek: | |

| I'm pretty much a metal purist. Some Journey and Styx is about as mellow as it gets. I can listen to Johnny Cash and Waylon ok and that's where the roads meet musically with my wife and I. Then it's almost any form of metal for me. Wait, I do like Roxy Music but it serves a specific purpose. |
