I'm thinking about it. Maybe in a couple of weeks and only if Best Buy carries it.

It's another great album, of course. But they do sound a little bit on auto pilot here. The melody lines are just so familiar, and Tom needs to come up with something fresh next time around. He's sounds a tad repetitive. But if you're a fan of the band, this can be bought unheard.
I'm reading a lot of good things about Torn but I'm also reading that they've incorporated a lot more prog elements like their older stuff. I liked Monday Morning Apocalypse because it was more "accessible" and I've read that the new one has shed that element.

I listened to the whole album on youtube and there def is enough hooks to keep you coming back. What Evergrey has done though is write some killer riffs and some great instrumental parts around those killer hooks.

Good to know, thanks. I'm really picky about prog metal; I've heard too many bands sacrifice song memorability on the altar of prog wankery. I need a memorable melody hook somewhere.
Anyone else got an opinion on this disc?

I like that.
Is that typical of the whole album or do they drift off into Dream Theater territory?

There really arent any of those prog parts on the album its mostly guitar parts over that atmospheric keyboard but they only last for seconds. There is only 2 songs over 5 minutes so that might be a hint. Most songs range in the 4 minutes area...

It's Amazon reviews like this that worry me:
GREAT CD!!! Evergrey is Back from that Mess "Monday Morning Apocalypse" Most dissapointing cd of 2006, Zero flow to the cd it was more like a bunch of left overs from the cutting room floor.. I WAS WORRIED...I thought they were done ...
Considering I have an older Evergrey album and don't like it, stuff like this scares me away.

MMA was a departure. It wasn't a bomb, but it was less enjoyable for long time fans. The new one is different that MMA, but if you like Evergrey, then I think you'll love it.
this CD just went way up on my want list. I love that guitar tone.

What he is saying imo is that the heavier element is back. I loved MMA and I agree with him here to an extent. This is more of a mixture between Recreation Day and MMA. The music is heavier then MMA but the songwriting is there. I thought MMA was great as well... Evergrey was really never a prog band they just had that eerir atmospheric element that some prog bands do. They never noodled around and really played different styles imo..

I just ready a funny review of this album....
Quote :
For this album... it was a new genre of metal in my opinion. The singing was actually singing. No screaming to this album so if you are into that you can move on to another album. As for the songs .... it had a heavy metal appeal like lamb of god, and trivium cept more music like Dragonforce mixed with actual singing. The interesting thing was that the singer sounds like the guy that sang Proud to be an american. So all together unique. A must listen to for people interested in a new type of metal. For you people looking for the next metallica... they are not it... more hardcore music...

LMFAO WOW!! How old is this guy or kid? This was def. not an adult review, maybe I am wrong here. Seem's as though he can't believe there are bands out there that have such great heavy music and sing just as good..
