Black Metal

LOVE IT!!!

Cradle of Filth (Sure, they're not truuu anymore - but I still like em!)

Slechtvalk
Holy Blood
Vardoger
Vaakevandring
Emperor


Don't like the real minimal sounding stuff:

Mayhem SUX IMO. No offense to anyone of course.

I also love Venom and Celtic Frost, but I don't really consider them to be true black metal, but rather proginators of the genre. They definitely influenced a lot of black metal.

Another band that really influenced a lot of black metal bands was early Sodom. They are really the first band to feature those 'grim' vocals later used by Immortal.

I'm not so sure I REALLY know what real black metal is to be honest. Please Educate. I don't know any of those bands. It's similar to death right? Place of Skulls - Nailed?

Place of Skulls is DOOM metal, brother.

Black Metal's sound can best be described thusly: put a hornet's nest in a blender and hit "liquify" ... but that's just my opinion

T-Roy - it's a lot like Death Metal, but even more extreme.

Instead of the gruff, growling the vocals, the vox are more 'shrieky' and 'screamy'. It's a step above DM on the 'extreme scale'.

Also BM can be a lot more melodic and symphonic than DM. Depending on the band of course.

Check out the band Slechtvalk! They are Christian and are my personal favorite BM band.

I don't like it at all. The music is not even good enough to get me to put up with the lyrics which is the case with some death metal.

I like it as well as other styles of metal.

Enslaved is one of my top five favorite bands ever and they were black metal at one point, but kind of indescribable these days. They have expanded to broad measures.

I'm old and I think it blows chunks.....

The situation with nowadays "black metal" is kinda the same as it is
with "power metal", too much sugar and shampoo everywhere!! Neither
Dimmu Borgir nor Stratovarius would fit under black and power metal,
but they do because their labels say so and that's it.

I have like three black metal albums. Diabolical Masquerade's Death's Design and Twilight Ophera's The End Of Halycon Age. At least, I think they're black metal. I really dig 'em, though. Everything else I've heard, however, has done nothing whatsoever for me.

Actually, I do want Keep Of Kallesin's Armada album. I dig that one, but deleted the download ages ago.

I only like a few black metal bands. Darkthrone, Venom, Celtic Frost, early Burzum, a little of Mayhem, Bathory. I love King Diamond and Mercyful Fate, but I dont consider it black metal.

definitely an influence on it, but KD/MF are more traditional metal.

I voted indifferent. most of my life Ive been listening to music that was harder and heavier than most of the people I knew. I dont listen to black metal and I cant stand it but I know why those who do because Ive been there.

i guess ive only listened to Dimmu Borgir, Emperor, Satyricon, Mayhem, and Fintroll. other than those I usally stay away from the genre.

Also, wikipedia says that Mercyful Fate and Celtic Frost are black metal, but I don't think so at all.
