SOLOS ARE SHOWING OFF??? UH...YEAH!!!!

I don't get it. When did the art and skillful technicality of shredding
off a solo become arrogance, ego and or self
righteous-look-at-my-greatness. I just don't understand.

I see this said all the time by metalcore, nu-metal and mainly the younger metal crowd.

Funny thing is, I dig allot of metalcore, deathcore and what not. But
what’s hypocritical about this stance, you can't listen to a metalcore
or alternative or deathcore or whatever modern metal album today, and
(MOSTLY) not have a full-length instrumental, usually an acoustic
SOLO!!! And breakdowns, what about the nonstop blast beat breakdowns. I
think there cool, but that to me has kind of taken the place of the
solo. UH, WHAT THE HECK IS THE DIFFERENCE...PIANO SOLO, TUBA SOLO,
ACOUSTIC SOLO!?!?!?!

I guess your “safe” as long as you don’t hit the distortion pedal……Okay, I feel better now.

A lot of death metal drummers do seemingly constant fills. Rarely are they accused of merely "showing off".

This is also the same with bassists.

what it boils down to is this-they dont have the skill to do a solo.Thats why they say things like this.

That's why we've always had record labels like shrapnel to get the shredding solo's all through the grunge thing.

Of course many of the solos is showing off but they are musicians, and they like to show off anyway, its normal. I love solos in songs. Without them nothing is the same.

if a song has a solo, great. if not, fine. it all comes down to how good the song is to me.

Solos are great! They makes the guitar actually worth learning.

As much as I love solos - I agree with you here as well. Some songs are fine without them.

Of course solos are showing off, the idea is to showcase the soloist!
