| Any deer hunters out there? I know the season out on the West Coast is over for rifle. But here in the Midwest it starts throughout the next two weeks! I helped a friend yesterday who bow hunts, pull out and clean a 120# doe he got yesterday morning.
I hunt with a .50 cal muzzleloader in both seasons, Standard Firearm and MZL season. I use a two-seater ladder stand on the very backside of my 10 acres, which butts up to several hundred acres of uninhabited hard woods. It's fun cuz my boys are really starting to enjoy going out with me. They don't last long though when it's cold!
Post your pictures here!!!!

The one time I went with my Dad it was black powder. If I were to ever do it myself that's the way to go. We didn't see a thing that year but we were camped out on a river, there was snow on the ground and we my Uncle and some cousins were there too so it was a good time had by all! The only thing I really like to hunt are groundhogs. When I go back home I have to grab a .22 and stalk some of those pests. Hope you have a good season and bring one (or more?) home!

| I think its great that you are spending time with your kids hunting. Its a good bonding opportunity. But, I have a sour taste in my mouth surrounding hunting because of where I grew up. The picture below illustrates the average hunter in Wood County, WV where I grew up. Unfortunately, its the few bad apples that spoiled the whole bunch for me growing up. But damn, you can't beat deer jerky. |

Scott was just speaking of hunting groundhogs. I hardly think that's ruining a thread. |

| Spectrefate - I do feel your pain on that redneck hunter pic....I didn't face that in Ohio so much, but here in West Texas that can be found a lot!
However, I now run/work with a more "adult" or "mature" crowd (can't think of a better description) and although among them there are some true rednecks they are respectful hunters and overall good folk......
That reminds me of one of those good guys. One time my wife (who's first and only language is English) came to the station and my Officer that day (who's first and only language is English) tried having a conversation. My poor wife couldn't understand a thing he was saying. I have more experience with regional accents here in the States of course so I was literally translating a conversation for two people who were both born and raised in English speaking lands! Pure redneck, but a great guy who just grew up very country.....

| My uncle hunts deer. In the past he always sent us a lot of deer meat and jerky. I love venison steaks and we used ground venison in everything; chilli, speghetti, tacos, etc. The last time I had some good venison was well over a year ago. My best friend had started hunting with his uncle, and although he didn't get him a deer his uncle gave him some venison which gave us some free meat for a couple of months (he lived with me and my dad). He was going to make it a yearly thing but unfortunatly he passed away last year. He and his uncle, you could consider rednecks but they were not like the ones pictured above. Unfortunatly most rednecks are not like that, there are a few who are bad apples that make the rest of the bunch look bad. | |

| I'M A CARD CARRYING METAL REDNECK. We use our ground deer in the EXACT same things Dallas. I also use the ground deer for jerky. You mix in your seasoning then stuff it into a big caulking gun looking thing with a flat tip...and presto! Jerky strips. Then dehydrate or smoke. Yes, Smoke 'em, great buzz! | |

| You guys are makin me hungry with all this talk of venison!! I haven't had venison in a few years now, used to have it all the time when I was a kid cuz my grandfather was an avid hunter. My wife won't even look at venison, much less eat it... she doesn't like to think about where it came from... | |

| I'm not a deer hunter, but I love a good venison chili! I'm all for hunting if you going to use the animal (food, clothing). I'm not a fan of killing and not using it - at least give the meat away to the poor if you're not going to use it. | |
