| I was listening and enjoying Scorpions' "Savage Amusement" the other day, and it got me to thinking. That album is widely panned by fans of the band, but I think it is awesome. I loved the polished and huge sound on that album. To this day, I don't understand the criticism of the album. Anyway, it got me wondering how many of us like an album by a band that is widely rejected by the band's fanbase, but that you really love. Another example for me is Bride's "Oddities". Man, most people hate that album, but I love it. | |

| Celtic Frost's Cold Lake. I think it's a good record. Most of their albums didn't sound like their previous one. It had it's Frost moments. I think most people hated their look for the album. | |

I tried getting into this band but I couldn't. I only own the Emperor's Return EP on cd. Good stuff though.

| Flotsam and Jetsam-When the Storm Comes Down(the mix is not the best, but there are several great songs on here including Suffer the Masses and E.M.T.E.K.) Onslaught-In Search of Sanity(more melodic and polished than the earlier stuff, but still worthwhile.) | |

| I bought my first album in 1988 or 1989, and when my love of music really began to grow, it was during that transition period when 80s bands started changing their sound to fit into the 90s scene. So a lot of my first experiences with bands are those albums that people older than me absolutely hate, and I love them. | |

Same here. I started with rock music in 1988/89 with the hair/glam stuff like Winger, Bullet Boys, Ratt, Skid Row and the Kiss compilation “Smashes, Thrashes and Hits”. All the stuff people hate now. I liked the pop aesthetic mixed with the guitar wankery. Reb Beach was my first guitar hero. By 1990 I was fully into thrash and the heavier stuff.

I was in the same situation. As a matter of fact, i began buying music back in the early 90's. So i kind of started on the wrong foot. Renewal was my first Kreator cd. Most people despise this album but I find it to be brilliant .

I am an 5 years older than you, thou not that much older, old enough were our entry point when we got into music is a lot different. I think a lot of those older metal/hard rock fans around my age would have dismissed and did dismiss anything that felt betrayed these bands roots and frankly their adolescents memories of the sound of these bands when they first discovered them.

Ooh. Yeah, those are good one. Both fantastic albums. Surprised that Distortion gets a lot of hate, to be honest, as it's closer to the classic stuff. As for Green, I get why people were put off by that one, but it's still excellent even if different. Killer drum work on it, too.
