EASTERN CONFERENCE
Tampa Bay Lightning (2) vs. New York Islanders (6)
For the first time since 1993, the New York Islanders have advanced to the Eastern Conference Final. (Back then, the Eastern Conference was known as the Prince of Wales Conference; it was renamed the Eastern Conference the following season.) They upset both the Washington Capitals in the Conference Quarterfinal in five games and then upset the Philadelphia Flyers in the Conference Semifinals. They face the Tampa Bay Lightning, who have made the Eastern Conference Final four times in the past six seasons. The Lightning and Islanders have met twice in the playoffs. Tampa Bay won both times, winning in the first round in 2003-04 and in the second round in 2015-16. However, in the 2019-20 regular season, the Islanders won two of the three meetings.
Prediction: Tampa Bay in six games.
WESTERN CONFERENCE
Vegas Golden Knights (1) vs. Dallas Stars (4)
After surprising the heavily favored Colorado Avalanche in seven games in the Western Conference Semifinals, the Dallas Stars are in the Western Conference Final for the first time since 2008, when they lost to the Detroit Red Wings. The Vegas Golden Knights are making their second Western Conference Final appearance in three seasons after defeating the Chicago Blackhawks in the Western Conference Quarterfinals and the Vancouver Canucks in the Western Conference Semifinals. This marks the first playoff meeting to date between Dallas and Vegas. In the regular season, Dallas and Vegas met twice. Dallas won the first meeting on November 25 by a 4-2 score, whereas Vegas won the second meeting on December 13 by a score of 3-2 in overtime.
Prediction: Vegas in six games.
