| Another short outing by a Cardinal starter. That about 4 or 5 in a row; eventually that crap is going to catch up in the bullpen. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| That was a lot of pitches in just 3 innings for Ponce de Leon (funny name). Amazingly he left the game with the lead. | |

| Pretty much every starter has done that the last time through the rotation. In fact, without looking it up, I'd say EVERY starter the last time through has thrown less than 5 innings. But amazingly the Cardinals are 7-3 since the All Star break thanks to the pen.
But as I said, eventually that catches up with the relievers. We need a nice, long 7 or 8 inning start. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| After Wieters just threw out the baserunner, the Cardinal announcers are talking about how he became a Cardinal. They said 'Why did you pick St. Louis?" and his brutally frank reply was "I didn't; they were the only team that called."
That's amazing to me. The guy is no HoF'er but given the dearth of quality catchers in the league it's really surprising that only the Cardinals called him.
One more thing, this at bat reminded me, Wieters is also a switch-hitter. C'mon, who couldn't use a switch-hitting catcher with some pop? _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Tyler Webb may be awful, but the Pirates bullpen as a whole are worse. They have to be the worst in baseball. Aside from Vazquez that is. But I'm sure the cheap bastards that run this team will be trading him away to a real contender. | |

| Watching tonight's game. I thought after Hudson gave up 3 in the first this would be yet ANOTHER short outing by a Cardinal starter. But miraculously Hudson settled down and went 6 1/3. That inning where the Pirates had bases loaded with no outs and Josh Bell up yet failed to score could be the dagger in this game. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| My god, do the Pirates make it hard to be a fan of the team. It gets tiresome year after year after year. 2 wins since the All Star break. | |

| Well, Wainwright gave up 2 in the first only to have the Pirates starter give up 8 runs in the 2nd. Don't worry 007, Wainwright is hardly the shutdown type anymore so this is a long way from over.
Holy crap we've hit 3 homers and 5 doubles in this inning. It's finally over; 9 runs on 9 hits (8 extra-base), 13 batters.
Why am I still worried about this game? Oh yeah, Cardinals pitching. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| See? Two runs back already. It's gonna be "one of those games". Wainwright has been pretty good at home but he's atrocious on the road. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| OK, this could get interesting. With the Cardinals up 11-4 in the 4th, Jairo Munoz stole 2nd and on the very next pitch stole third. Then Wainwright drove him in with a sac fly.
Nobody seemed to upset by it and once Munoz was in the dugout they showed manager Mike Shildt with his arm around him talking to him; maybe telling him something like "Son, we don't do that here in this situation". But hey, it's only the 4th and Wainwright has been terrible so in this situation I'm not sure where the "unwritten rule" line is; I might be pissed if the situation was reversed. I guess we'll see if the Pirates drill somebody. At any rate it's now 13-4 so if they're going to "retaliate" this would be a good game to do it. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Final was 14-8. The Pirates used two position players as pitchers to cover 3 innings and those guys looked better than most of their relievers. Osuna was spotting a 93 mph fastball on the corners! _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

I feel your pain. Here the Cards go again on their usual mid-season uptick just giving false hope to the fans. They completed the sweep today and are now tied with the Cubs for first place in the division. But guess what? Our next three series are against the Astros, the Cubs and the Dodgers. This last 7-1 road trip and the entire STL post-ASG record has been total smoke and mirrors. The starting pitching has sucked and the offense has been iffy (except against Pittsburgh, sorry 007). So now, still without Ozuna, Carpenter and Molina, we're going to take on the elite teams in MLB? Good luck; at best I predict the Cardinals will be .500 or maybe a couple games over at best after the next 9 games. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Watched the Cardinal lose to the Astros again. Cardinals announcers noted that the team record against teams .500 or better is well below .500. So in other words we can beat up on weaker teams but when we play good teams we suck. Houston proved that and next up are the Cubs followed by the Dodgers.
We'll see what the Cards' record is after the next week. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Watching the rubber game of the Cubs/Cards series. It's currently 6-0 Cards in the 7th after backup catcher Matt Wieters hit a 3-run shot in the 6th, his 10th HR in only 129 ABs; it's amazing the Cards were the only team to offer Wieters a job in the off-season. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

This is when I miss my Dad the most; he was the only person I knew who watched boxing and he was an AVID fan; he watched more boxing than I did. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.
