The Washington Capitals finally managed to advance beyond the second round of the playoffs, making it there for only the third time in franchise history. The last time was in 1998, when they made the Stanley Cup Finals for the only time ever (they fell in four straight to the Detroit Red Wings that year). They face the Tampa Bay Lightning, who defeated the New Jersey Devils in the first round and Boston Bruins in the second. Tampa Bay and Washington have met in the playoffs twice thus far, in 2003 and 2011; Tampa Bay won both times.

Vegas Golden Knights (1st in Pacific Division) vs. Winnipeg Jets (2nd in Central Division)
The inaugural season of the Vegas Golden Knights just gets more golden; they find themselves just four wins away from the Stanley Cup Finals. They face the Winnipeg Jets, who advanced beyond the first round of the playoffs for the first time ever this season. The Jets knocked off the NHL's top regular season team in the second round by defeated the Nashville Predators in seven games. Vegas won two of the three meeting between the two teams in the regular season.
Prediction: Vegas in seven games.
