Believe it or not, I had no Slade music at all (unless you count covers of Slade songs by other bands). Well today when I was grocery shopping, a song was playing over the store PA and I really liked it. I kept hearing the lyric "See the chameleon lying there in the sun, all things to everyone run, run away."
So when I got home I looked it up and it's yet another Slade song. So I just ordered this Greatest Hits comp:

I hit up an awesome independent shop on the way back from my niece's softball game. less than $30 for everything. The Freedom Call discs were $2 each!

I couldn't help myself. Today I stopped back at Half Price Books. I started out rummaging through their clearance section which I realized I hadn't done at this particular location. I had mined the clearance section of just about every HPB in my area and never found anything after doing so. Here I found quite a bit:
When I saw the back of the CD, I knew this was right up my alley!
I got this merely for the novelty (all the clearance CDs were just $2 bucks). Just check out some of the song titles:
Save The Whales (Eat A Dolphin) Fingering Aminor Fingering Amajor Your God Is Dead (So Worship Me Instead) Feline Asphyxiation Satan Killed My Dog
Obviously a joke band mocking death metal stereotypes.
After that, I went ahead and looked through the main section again and found they had added a lot of new stuff. Some of which I already have (like Symphony X-Twilight In Olympus) but found some good folk metal (all under $6):

That track interested me. First of all I was immediately intrigued by the name "Mississippi Bones". I wasn't sure what to expect but I figured there would be some kind of southern influence and the vocals on that song sort of have that. But then there's also a kind of "stoner vibe" like Monster Magnet or Queens Of The Stone Age.
I checked out a few tracks from the 2600AD album on YouTube and it seems like my latter impression dominates their sound. Am I wrong?

Kind of like a stoner geek version of Clutch, I guess.

I don't want to use the headbanger guy because Quireboys aren't even remotely "metal" but nice pickup
EDIT: Hey I just read the rest of the list! Johnny Crash and Lord Tracy ("She's a bitch!!!!"). Nice haul!

I had the Quireboys debut, A Bit of What You Fancy, on tape some 20+ years ago. I was gonna get it again, but decided on the "best of" instead. If I enjoy it, I might invest in some more of their back catalog. I like their brand of Faces/Stones boozy pub rock.
The Lord Tracy and Johnny Crash cds were pure luck on ebay. I got them both pretty cheap, compared to what they usually go for.
