Went back to that liquor store with all the weird, unpronounceable Eastern European beers this past week and tried a few more Polish brews, enjoyed 'em both... "Lezajsk" and "E.B." (no idea what those initials stand for). I would def buy either one again, tho I'd have to give the edge to Lezjask.

According to BeerAdvocate, Lezajsk is made by Heineken.

So is EB.

From what I've gathered, many of these Polish breweries/brands date back hundreds of years, but most of them are now at least partially owned by either Heineken or Carlsberg nowadays.

Surprise, surprise!

I went to Sam's Club to pick up a prescription and discovered they had 750ml bottles of Founder's KBS.  Grabbed three.  I may go back for more.

I'm enjoying a Founder's KBS.  As good as I think this is, I do think it's a tad overrated.  People will go out of their way to obtain this beer and I don't think it's worth that.

I'd have to know what other Belgians it compares to.  I suspect it's better than Blue Moon's alleged Belgian beer but probably not as strong as most of the Belgians I regularly buy.  But you never know.   If I see it I'll probably pick some up just to say I tried it.

It's not as strong as other Belgians I've tried. Kinda like a cross between their Trooper beer and Belgian styles.

That has to be some form of a sour which means I wouldn't like it.  I've yet to try a sour ale that I enjoyed.

I've never had a sour ale, but with the name sour in it, I doubt I ever will. Just like bitter, I'm not a big fan of sour.

Picked up some stuff from Specs (the store whose warehouse I work for-no I don't get an employee discount unfortunately). A weaker beer for every day consumption and a strong one for the rare times I'm not worn out.

The weaker one:

The stronger one (a limited edition gift pack):

So far I had the first one and it was quite good. It reminded me of Maudite though not quite as sweet which is ideal as it doesn't quite have as much of an aftertaste.

I picked up a new one from Southern Tier today, Samoa This.  It's their latest variation on their stout.  Earlier this year they did a "Thin Mints" version and now it's a Samoas version (as in the Girl Scout cookie).  I also bought a new Game Of Thrones-themed beer from Ommegang called "Hand Of The Queen".  This one is an English barleywine which is a new style I've been exploring since I found out it's another name for an "old ale".  So much beer, so much to learn...

https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/3818/321161/

I'll try the Samoa one tomorrow; I already had my two beer limit tonight.  It better be good because I bought 3 four-packs of it.  I'm sure it will be because all of Southern Tier's stout variations are quality.

I'll have to look for that second one; I love Belgian strong dark ales.

I'm sure you'd like that one. As I said, it's a bit like Maudite but not quite as sweet and in turn doesn't have as much of an aftertaste.

Starting to pick up more beers than I'm drinking, but I couldn't help it. My mom is in rehab for back surgery and there are two Specs between there and home. Most of these I got due to the novelty factor (the last two):

Beer! - Page 8 Not-Your-Fathers-Root-Beer-10.7
https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/24798/79976/

I've heard this is the only version worth drinking so I just HAD to get it!

Next is the collaboration between Megadeth and Unibroue:

Beer! - Page 8 33981005086_b52799497f_h
https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22/241288/

Yeah, it's quite weak for a Unibroue beer but it actually has a pleasant taste. Not quite the quality as the other stuff, but better than most beers from New Belgium.

Also, Iron Maiden and Megadeth aren't the only bands getting into the beer business:

Beer! - Page 8 Dscn30602
https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/428/78313/

From the Beer Advocate review, this one seems promising.

Still can't find The Iron Maiden Belgian.

I burned myself out on that Not Your Father's.  It's dangerously drinkable for the ABV though.

That Mastodon beer is actually pretty good. A bit of a bitter aftertaste, but otherwise, probably one of the smoothest non-Belgians I've had.

Made a trip to my two favorite beer stores yesterday and I got lucky at one of them.  I'd found a bottle of Firestone Walker's "Sucaba" beer at the snobby store of our local grocery franchise a couple weeks ago and I was hoping to find it at one of these two stores.  It's an English barleywine which means it's a lot less hoppy than its American counterpart and has notes of caramel, malt and biscuit which really hides the 12.5 ABV nicely.

Anyway, not only did the second store have some "Sucaba" but apparently they lost the "Limit 1 per customer" sign I've seen everywhere else that had this beer.    I put three 12oz bottles in my cart and when I checked out they asked if I saw the limit sign.  I said "what sign?".  They sent someone to check and they didn't see any limit sign either so they reluctantly sold me the three bottles.  If I'd known it would be that easy I would have picked up all 6 bottles that were on display.  This stuff is great!

I have Dave Ellefson's coffee but I didn't realize Megadeth had a brew too!

I'm at 18 days without alcohol, as the doctor advised not to drink for a month after Lasik. But I'll definitely look for it when I'm back stateside next month.

I just found out the local snobby beer pub has Firestone Walker's "Sucaba" on tap so I'm meeting my friend from work there tomorrow.

This stuff is "nectar of the gods" for me out of the bottle so I can only imagine how good it is from a keg.

Drinking another "London Balling" from Decadent Brewery.  It's an English barley wine which has become my new favorite style of beer.  It's sweet like a Belgian but has a slight hop undertone that keeps the sweetness from becoming cloying.  It's the same style as Firestone Walker's Sucaba and the more readily available North Coast Old Stock.
