| What IS the difference between "malt liquor" and just plain "beer." Or is it one in the same? | |

They're more or less the same in terms of formula/ingredients, but malt liquor is brewed specifically for higher alcohol content. If I may quote our good friends at Wikipedia: - Quote :
- In legal statutes, the term often includes any alcoholic beverage above or equal to 5% alcohol by volume made with malted barley. In common parlance, however, it is used for high alcohol beers made with ingredients and processes resembling those in American-style lager. Malt liquor is distinguished from other beers of high alcohol content in that the brewing process is seen by many as targeting high alcohol content and economy rather than quality.

| What it boils down to is this: if you just want a refreshing beverage on a hot day, you want beer. When you want to get really drunk, really quick, really cheap, you want Malt Liquor. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| Some imports are labeled malt liquor due to their alcohol content, though. Take Spaten from Germany (love that stuff). It is labeled as a malt liquor, but in no way is it cheap. | |

| A friend of mine invited me over for public duty tomorrow. He recently got married, and had some beers left after the wedding party. So he wants help to finish them off. He said he had 12 cases........... _________________ | |

| I'm about to start diving into the cache of Schlafly's Pumpkin Ale that I amassed last fall. The stuff starts being released around September and I've still got 9 six-packs of it left. It still was a great investment to stock up on it. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Goin' away for the weekend in a couple of hours... and for once the RV is NOT stocked with Pabst Blue Ribbon!! The store was out of PBR (horrors!) so I got me a 30 pack of Genesee Cream Ale. Ain't had that one in a while. By the way... yo Stender!! You expressed interest in Crazy Horse Malt Liquor, well at the store last night I learned that it has indeed been reborn under a new name... "Crazy Stallion" Only $1.95 a bottle! So if you want to try this legendary swill, git yo'self to your nearest cheap liquor retailer and seek it out... _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| I'm not a drinker, but I just brought back some Banks beer and Mount ga-hey Rum (no comments!), as they are both the beer and the rum of Barbados. We'll see what they taste like. | |

| so I really just abhor the taste and smell of alcohol/fermentation in general, and have just never been a drinker at all. Just not for me, likely will never be...wine is even worse though. I've tried plenty of beers however and at the very least respect the arts of brewing and tasting and all the sciences that come with it. Recently I tried something which, barring the aforementioned alcohol, seemed to be quite good, definitely among the best I've toyed with: No doubt it's the Deutsch in me, despite this particular black being made by a Milwaukee company. | |

Genny was the "local brew" (made in Rochester) so it was everywhere. At the time (late 70s/early 80s) you couldn't find it outside of NY state so whenever we went up to my grandparents' to visit, my Dad would always bring a case home with him to Jersey. He was very happy when it started turning up in stores closer to home years later. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| If I have time to sit and enjoy it: Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Köstritzer Schwarzbier
Otherwise outside in the sun or after a workout, it's either Sol, Dos Equis Lager, or High Life.
Granted, as long as it's not light beer (except Sam Adam's or Coors Light) and costs more than 10 dollars for a 12 pack I'm happy. | |
