Holy Cow!!
I guess it's been a while since I listened to this....because I'm reminded of how seriously butt-kicking this is.
Man, they were at the top of their game in the 90's.

Great album. Self titled, scrolls, and post are the best of Mortification, IMO.

What do you guys think of Erasing the Goblin? I might place it third in their catalog.

I like Erasing the Goblin a lot. It was, finally, an actual return to form. Now if big "D" could actually return to form like that...

I really like Scrolls and Goblin but there's something about Primitive Rhythm Machine and Relentless that make them my fave Morty albums.

I remember when I hated those early Mort albums, I just was not at all into extreme metal, it is an acquired taste...

same here. Finding Scrolls for $1 was a great buy. Too bad their other releases were more pricey at that time.

Relentless was solid as well... more thrash then death...
But those first Mort albums are crushing....
I've always loved this one too!!!

I think Scrolls was the first properly done Christian extreme metal album.

Can't believe it's been this long since Morty came up. I wonder how Steve rowe is doing? Can't find anything about him.

Mortification are one of the greatest Christian metal bands! They were unashamed and hard hitting.

What exactly is it about Scrolls that you like so much? I never thought it was all that great. There were a few good songs on it. I liked the Self Titled album better, just my opinion but even that wasn't great. I am just curious.

Lurideath,
Hmm...what's not to love?!
Steve's bass and vocals were on point. Those were his best death vocals by far. The songwriting was great...they wrote great tunes with great DM tempo. The DRUMMING!! I love the lyrical themes...
I don't know what to tell you, it hits all the spots. When they slowed down it was crushing and dense. When they sped up it was crushing with great tempo.
Awesome!

I’m actually pretty surprised by your low opinion of this album! I suspect it’s partly because it’s not crazy fast all the way through like some of your beloved German thrash bands. But I think this album is pummeling and dark (without being lyrically evil). A lot of tempo changes and skillful drumming. And like Scott said, the vocals are deep and heavy without sounding forced. My only complaint it the absence of guitar solos... but the guitar tone is very unique! I’ve never heard another album with that exact tone.
