MORTIFICATION

Been on a bit of a Morty trip for the past few days. What would be your Top 5 to 10 Morty albums?

Mortification is another band I got into due to NoLifeTilMetal. Steve Rowe has since become a huge inspiration to me. Anyhoo....my top 10 Morty albums are...

But I honestly like them all, even Silver Cord which seems to be the red headed step child of the Mortification discography.

Scrolls would be my fave, the rest in no real order I like them all.

I own Post Momentary Scrolls and when I was a teenager I owned their s/t and Scrolls on tape. I have no memory of that first s/t accept that I remember the day it wouldn't play anymore so I must have liked it. I like Scrolls too. Other than these three I have never listened to any other Mortification. I really need to. I'd love to just get the whole dang collection! I really like the clips from the new album. Some day when I'm rich....in earthly things anyways! For now...I embrace poverty. LOL!!

dude, you and I are probably the only Morty fans on the planet that love "Hammer Of God" and put it near or at the top of our fave list. I love the guitar sound on that album, sure it's kinda polished but it harkens me back to the late 80's thrash days with the crisp sounding guitars and speedy/heavy metal/melodic mid-tempo metal era.

I'm curious: I've read numerous times that your fave was "EnVision EvAngeline" but here it fell all the way to #6 on your list. That is another album that falls right in the middle of my favorite Morty era ('93-'99).

Ehhhh, EnVision use to be my favorite but has dropped down a bit over time. "Hammer of God" tends to be the Morty album that starts me off on Morty trips. I played HoG at the gym a few days ago and then just got on a Morty trip.

I too love the guitar sound on that one, as well as the songs. Martys and In the Woods are probably two of my favorites.

those three are outstanding. the rest of their discography is spotty, with only 2 or 3 good songs on each of them, if that. so i wouldn't even include them in a top list.

Have you heard Erasing the Goblin or Hammer of God?

Speaking of Hammer of God, Martin Popoff gave it a killer review in the Heavy Metal Collector's Guide, but slagged the rest of the band's catalog.

yeah, i own both of them. a few good songs on each, but a lot of filler material as well. the good songs tend to be very good though, so it's enough to keep me buying Morty albums.

i do love the song In The Woods. it always gets the head a bobbin.

I felt guilty not liking it, becauce I'm a huge Morty/Steve Rowe fan, but it just fell flat for me.
