The intent of the post was for people nominate 3 albums for a top 25 list. As per usual, no one follows instructions and lists a million albums.

| I thought LOUDNESS - " Thunder From The East " was a break through - for me - to accept ( no pun attended ) to accept music from lands afar off - esp that opening guitar riff - such clarity and crunch !!!!! | |

| Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind, almost went with TNOTB but that was the ultimate and best NWOBHM album and it launched Maiden to stardom. No one else in the movement could ever top that album. Piece Of Mind was their first album to move beyond the movement and put them on another level, influencing what was to come from many a Metal band. It was also their first world wide Arena tour, moving them out of the theaters and onto the big stage.
Metallica - Master of Puppets. The album that brought Trash Metal out of the underground.
Black Sabbath - S/T. Launched an entire genre of music.

| For some reason, I thought we had to limit our picks to stuff that came out between 1980-89. But now that I read this thread again, it seems the picks can be from any year? I don't know why my mind saw 80s only. In that case, yeah Black Sabbath - S/T should be on the list for sure. Id put Rust In Peace on there too. | |

| Ok, I'm going to take a blind stab at this. If you asked me again in a month, I think my answers would change.
1. Faith No More - Angel Dust: Melodic, angular, weird, well-written, well-played, eclectic. It's not taking itself too seriously, but you could do that if you really wanted to. It's also just awesome musically and shows how far you can stretch the genre.
2. King Crimson - Red: Yeah, I know. It's technically prog, but it's prog at its loudest, angriest, and most abrasive. This album made the rounds and you can hear its influence on modern metal, grunge, and all points in between.
3. Black Sabbath - Paranoid: Had to go with this over the self-titled because the title track is tied with "Smoke on the Water" for "Baby's first guitar riff." Not a clunker on this album and its pacing is marginally better than the debut.

That's only visible if you see it in the Heart Of Metal sub-forum. If you view "posts since last visit" or "unanswered posts" you'll only see the title and not that text.

And also it's completely invisible when viewing the mobile version. Basically, don't use that field for "important" information.

| Suicidal Tendencies - was a ground breaker - I remember hearing them - on a college radio late night show - and instantly saying " WHO is THIS " ???? I thought they and Anthrax - had a similar thing - that not many other bands had, at that time - what a glorious decade | |

Joker loses hot air balloon privileges for the morning and I will go without food or drink for at least 1/2 an hour. LOL!!!! I could actually go with Def Leppard - Pyromania, their last metal album that paved the way for 80's metal. That album opened the doors for Quiet Riot to hit # 1 on the billboard charts and all thing Pop Metal that cam afterwards.
