It's weird, at the time this came out I (like a lot of other people) thought that this was a disappointment after Powerslave but all these years later I think it's a massive return to form after Powerslave. I saw them live on this tour and was just bored by it all. There may have been a laser battle, I didn't really care, I do remember a massive inflatable Eddie raising Nicko to the ceiling
But it just wasn't where I was at. I was 16 and in addition to the thrash and hardcore that I loved I was discovering Joy Division, The Stooges, and early Pink Floyd, substance abuse and naked girls was also starting to be of much more interest to me than inflatable heads, so this album was just wrong time wrong place.
Now I can appreciate that it really was a great record and Stranger In A Strange Land gets my vote, such an un Maiden like riff.

Wasted Years. The whole album is rock solid. I caught them on tour for this album with Yngwie Malmsteen opening. Great show ! One stand out memory was the laser gun battle between Bruce and an 8 ft tall (or so) Eddie.
And it's things like this why I scratch my head as to why a proper live document has not seen the light of day. That just sounds amazing.

As for my favorite song off Somewhere In Time it changes but I have to say Stranger In A Strange Land.

Wasted Years is the obvious choice for me.
Somehow I missed this thread the first time around.

Thank you so much for satisfying my curiosity.
For anyone who's curious as well, at the 15m mark it's explained that the shows were never fully filmed; just bits and pieces. They regret the decision today--no surprise.

It's possibly their worst song. I can't think of a worse one immediately. The Apparition?
The lyrics are terrible.
I'm not a big fan of the album either. But there's some classic cuts here that work well.
