Finally gave that Days of the New disc a spin this morning, and yeah, I'd guess that mmmmaaayyyyybe they had kinda sorta heard of Alice In Chains, just a little. Haha. It sounds a lot like AIC's acoustic EP Jar Of Flies. Not sure if I dig it yet. It kinda went in one ear n' out the other while I was working.

If I remember correctly DotN is pretty much one guy, Travis Meeks.  I dig them in limited doses.  Like a lot of bands I like them better when I hear a song here or there mixed in with other stuff.  A whole album at one time starts to drone on for me.

Yeah, Meeks was the main songwriter. Great band, pretty unique sound and style overall, I think. Shame Meeks has pretty much ruined his life with drug addiction.

That always gets a laugh out of me too. When I see all the weird, diverse stuff that Eyesore picks up, then a few run-of-the-mill "common" metal albums show up, I chuckle and think, "Geez, what took you so long?".

Still haven't had time to spin it but I've read/heard many Cheap Trick comparisons in the past, which is what convinced me to pull the trigger on it (well, that and the fact that it was 79 cents, haha).

Ha, yeah well I certainly don't imagine he's itching to revisit that. And as far as I can tell, all of his projects afterwards were much more well received.

I remember he did make mention of it in a jokey way in some recent lyrics...cannot remember what song or project now, but something along the lines of "She wanted to listen to some hair bands/that hits a little too close to home for me"...something like that.

But I do think SG were better than "Tainted Angel" made people believe. Their second album was really good. But yeah. You know how it goes.

South Gang just came too late to the party. The keg was kicked, the girls were gone and everyone was too busy nursing their hangovers to care for another overly-polished & styled hair band. Butch had better things on the horizon. Anyway, moving on...
