I know we've got a few fans of Southern Rock on this board including Ult and myself. How about a thread with some of your favorites artists/songs and some hidden gems? Feel free to throw in some heavy country or roots rock too - I don't really care about how their labeled, I'm more interested in the overall sound.
I've pimped this band before, but I'll do it again:
Whiskey Myers from Tyler, Texas:

I don't think that he is Southern Rock, but this is my favorite Zakk Wylde tune where that mines that sound:

Not a big fan of southern rock at all, but I have a couple friends that are into Blackberry Smoke:

How about Shaver? For a little background, Billy Joe Shaver is an Outlaw Country artist that is way too country for my tastes, but in 1993 he released an album called Tramp On Your Street featuring his son Eddy Shaver on guitar. Eddy was quite the axe man and the combo of heavier guitars and a more rock and roll style made this album really appeal to me. That sound was fairly unique and the time and has since been adopted by almost every modern country act.

As an example of heavy modern country I give to you Brantley Gilbert:
There's hardly any country in those songs and he sounds like southern rock to me.

Here's a pick that's sure to be repellent to most on this board. Kid Rock has toyed with Southern Rock for years, but he's recorded only one song that I like and it's the very heavy (for him) "Jackson, Mississippi."

Oh yeah! Definitely one of the loudest concerts I've ever been to.

I like Kid Rock's post-rap output. He does do quite a bit of southern rock-ish songs as well as Bob Seger-ish songs, both of which are winners in my book.

You beat me to it. Of the "newer" southern rock bands around (and there are precious few) this is one of my favorites.

One of my alltime favorite southern rock bands is the Outlaws. But a lot of people missed this post (and posthumous) album without legendary Hughie Thomasson that saw Henry Paul rejoining the band.

How about this one by Georgia Satellites? I have this on the vinyl-only EP Dan Baird mentions in the intro.
Which reminds me, I saw the G-Sats in a little (and I mean LITTLE) bar in Murfreesboro right before their major label debut came out and made them stars for a short time. They invited this band who happened to also be in the audience up on stage to jam with them.

Remember, you asked for it.
How about Steve Earle? I think this is a classic in the country/rock/southernrock crossover genre.
Yeah, I'm a MAJOR fan of the genre.

The only southern rock group I've ever liked is the early Allman Brothers Band stuff (while Duane was still alive). Lots of jazz influence on those records.

How about The Cadillac Three (formerly known as The Cadillac Black and composed of 3/4 of American Bang):
Here's their cover of Motley Crue's "Live Wire"
Also, they're now on Big Machine Records (aka Taylor Swift's label, aka super-creepy Scott Borchetta's label) so I expect any future recordings to have all the grit sanded off.

Cadillac 3 rings a bell. I think I tried these guys before and thought they sounded like a stoner version of southern rock. Those first 2 songs don't change that opinion but I like the third one.

Another album I have on vinyl. I remember liking it better than most Allman Brothers albums. Probably because while still blues-based it had a more mainstream sensibility to it.
