Not that it matters but I wonder if this album will be another #1 album on BB for them?
Album cover looks different than what they revealed. Het has a frown thing going on now and I've wondered why (at least to my eyes) Kirk isn't really shown much it seems on the mish-mash of their faces on the album or singles. Is it cause he doesn't have a songwriting credit on this album?

Upon first listen I like it for what it is. Didn't expect so much Load/ReLoad feel but I really like those albums. James wrote great riffs and his vox were good as well in that era and Kirk really shined in that format as well. As some here know I am not a fan of Metallica really except for the Mustaine era up to RTL and from Load to present day so with that being said this album is good. Not great. I wouldn't be surprised if between this album and the next Rob leaves.

It looks like every track from the new album is on YouTube now (some officially, some not...haha). I havent' listened to every one yet but I'm intrigued enough by what I've heard that I'm gonna stop @ Best Buy on the way home from work tonight and pick up the CD.

I agree with the sentiment that, mostly, the thrashiest tracks were the advance tunes....but I still dig most of the album.

Ha, also...the top review at the moment on Amazon breaks the album down like this...
"Hardwired… can be summarized as a ...Justice/Black album mix. It’s 20% bonafide classic Metallica: title track and Spit out the Bone romp into an easy lead. 10% Death Magnetic and 20% ...Justice chug, 30% Black album meandering and singing, 5% cheese and 5% Lars’ drum sound, and 5% disappointment. It's a solid effort."

There is no Justice on this album.

I disagree...in each of the three singles when they were released, I totally thought to myself I could hear Justice in some of those riffs.
I mean, it's nowhere near Justice, as Justice is the actual, factual, inarguable best metal record ever made. But I totally hear it in there.

Metallica was accused of borrowing the cover concept from Crowbar's Odd Fellows Rest.
Strangely enough, the bonus disc of Hardwired...to Self Destruct contains a cover of Iron Maiden's "Remember Tomorrow". Crowbar also included that song as a bonus track on the reissue of Odd Fellows Rest.

Probably my favourite song on the album
I don't really care what era they revisit, I love some songs from all albums (yup including St Anger) and this one is definitely from the Load era (with a bit of Death Magnetic) but I've found some of the songs on this new one to be really lacking, this however is great and sounds fresh.

Dude, the melodies in the verses are downright creepy. Good song, though. I'm having a hard time finding a song I don't like. I've been playing ManUNkind a bunch today.

I don't dislike any song, only certain parts. And really, I don't dislike the parts themselves; I just don't think they flow into each other very well.
I think I like "Halo On Fire" best right now. Love that one. It feels like the most complete song, and I like that it kind of has a unique style, especially for Metallica.

I picked up the 3-disc deluxe version at Best Buy on my way home Friday night (it was the same price - $9.99 - as the 2-disc, so that was a no brainer), but I've only had time to listen to it once all the way thru since then. So far, I dig it. The tracks haven't really "gelled" yet so aside from the ones I've already heard numerous times via YouTube over the past month or so (the title track, Spit Out the Bone, etc.) I can't single out any particular faves. There are a couple of songs that seem overlong, but that's Metallica all over.
I still haven't gotten all the way thru the bonus tracks on Disc 3, but out of the ones I did hear, the Rainbow cover medley was pretty bad ass, but the Deep Purple cover sucked...
This was kind of odd, though: I put the discs in my PC this morning so I could rip them to MP3s to go in my cell phone, and Windows Media Player didn't recognize them...they came up as "Unknown Album" by "Unknown Artist." Did anyone else experience this? I thought it was rather bizarre that a new album by one of the biggest bands in the world wasn't in the friggin' Gracenote database.

I got the digital version yesterday and I listened repeatedly during work today. Honestly, there's not a bad song on it, IMO. I found the whole album to be memorable and we'll written. I enjoyed Death Magnetic, but I like this one better. Just my 2 cents....but I'm diggin' it.

Music wise they were great. However, it's weird to hear James' newer (after 20 years it's not very new) vocals sound strange with the old school live songs. The Deep Purple cover is good as is the Dio medley and Iron Maiden cover.

Cool, I will have to check them out. I'm really liking the new album, and I've been revisiting the rest of their catalogue recently. Although I don't *dislike* much that they've released, Metallica is a band I've never been especially enthralled by. I think in part because they just seem so out of touch with the rest of the thrash/metal/hard rock scene, as Ult mentions on the No Life Til Metal Metallica page. The new album has renewed my interest though.

Nope, everything's up to date -- I checked. (shrugs) No biggy, it was just an extra pain in the ass typing all the track info in myself so the MP3s would be labeled on my phone.

There's no option to pull the track info from the CD itself? A lot of times that works, although it's annoying as hell when it's in all caps. (I'm talking to YOU, Stormspell! Haha.)
