I like the one Steve Vai played on Motörhead's Terminal Show song.

Even though it isn't metal related, I like Stevie Ray Vaughn's solo on Let's Dance by David Bowie.
Here's a pre-album demo version: https://youtu.be/fEn3BPsXTbU

The first 2 that came to my mind are more rock than metal, but so what...
Eric Clapton playing on the Beatles 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' Eddie Van Halen on Michael Jackson's 'Beat It'

How about this outro solo by Zakk Wylde?
Okay, so I mostly posted that for the sake of novelty.

I've always liked the simple little guitar solo in Gene Simmons's version of "See You In Your Dreams". According to wikipedia, the guitarist was Rick Nielsen.

Does Michael Schenker count on the Scorpions Love Drive record? He's on what 3-7 tracks ? Even he does not seem to know.

I heard they hired a bunch of famous musicians for this with them not knowing who the singer was, Anybody heard that before? I think Ginger Baker mentioned that once & he played on the record.
Interesting idea if that is truly what happened..

I could be jumping at shadows, but I think I see a pattern here..
Not metal (though pretty badass), but David Gilmour's lead work on Warren Zevon's "Run Straight Down" is EPIC as hell! The Transverse City album in general gets a lot of flak and I think it's undeserved. It's probably my favorite album by Zevon in the final accounting.

Brian May lays down some sweet guitar on this track from Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters) and the Coattail Riders...
He's on this track too...

Was Duane a guest? I thought he was part of the group, no?
EDIT: Further research tells me he wasn't an "official" member, but his playing is all over that album. I just assumed he was part of the group. Kooky.

Tourniquet has been using a lot of guest musicians on recent albums, but none of the playing really stands out IMO. Even with guys like Marty Friedman and Bruce Franklin.

Steely Dan became a studio-only band after their second album and their records feature a variety of great session guitarists including players like Jeff "Skunk" Baxter, Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour and others.

I don't know for sure if Rocky George was ever an official member of the Cro-Mags, but he laid down some cool solos on the Revenge album.
