Pantera are definitely not thrash in any way.

I like pretty much every album on the list, except the Kreator records. I'm not huge into them.
but if I were making the list, Metallica's first four would hold the top 4 spots and Act III would probably be # 5 or 6, whichever spot was not held by Heathen's Victims of Deception.

In "any way"? They were certainly influenced at least by thrash metal.
Like EXHORDER for example.

Influenced sure, but that doesn't automatically mean they belong on a "Top thrash albums" list.

Maybe not, but it's debatable. "Not thrash in any way" sounds like internet forum hyperbole.

I personally just don't hear any thrash elements in their sound.

Then the problem could lie more with your perception than the band itself.

Hey S.D. - I thought your authority was prog. Why rip on thrash opinions?

I don't claim to be an "authority" on anything. I will also state my opinion whenever and wherever I wish. Have a nice day.

SD - do you think they mean fuxxy thrash-core or sheared, half-head crusted thrash?

Pantera definitely have thrash elements. I also detect a hint of orange peel, some sesame oil and a touch of dill.

THAT must be why I'm not a big fan of them: never did care for sesame oil.

Not going to argue about the labeling of it, but lets just say for arguments sake that they are thrash.None of their albums would come in my top 100, never mind top 25. Let's be honest, they were a glam metal band with some power elements and then they jumped on the bandwagon because it became clear that people were not buying what they were selling. I've tried with this band for a long, long time (I think that I first heard them around '86) but I just don't get the appeal.
There are way too many great thrash albums to worry about whether these guys belong on a top 25 list.
I also think that Death Angel are horribly over rated.

I'm not going to argue whether Pantera are thrash or not, but I will argue that they were not glam.
I remember people always used to tell me that Pantera had pre-Cowboys records that sounded like Poison. I was hot to hear those, as I loved Pantera and I love glam. Fast forward to the internet existing. I heard all 4 pre-CFH albums. Nothing like Poison and not glam at all.
I guess that's what I get for listening to grindcore dudes who refer to anything Mayhem did past Deathcrush as "pop music".

..some bands on this list like megadeth have albums that completely abandon thrash...does that make them no longer a thrash band? ........................
What about suicidal tendencies..should they be on this list?

Okay, you are the one mentioning Poison! I think this one sounds two parts Motley two parts Accept (Glam & Power) with the image being very much on the glam side although ny no means
What there isn't is the faintest hint of thrash, not one bit.

Damn that Pantera song is good. Yeah, I'd just call that 80s metal. No problem with the Accept comparison...never considered them glam, so. But, yeah the image, for sure, is nice and glammy.
And I said Poison when I said that people used to (in error) tell me that Pantera once sounded like Poison. So those dudes said Poison. Not me.

I do think that the song that I posted is about a gazillion times better than any of their later stuff though.

I loved Vulgar and Cowboys when I was 14/15, and then suddenly felt like I had matured beyond that band. Though in the past few years, when I no longer had dumb ideas like that, I rekindled my love for both records. I do like their 80s metal stuff best though, and I'd love to have them on CD, if not in full then even just a best of comp or anthology or something.

Pantera is certainly not a thrash band, but their must was most definitely influenced by thrash metal. You can clearly hear it a ton of songs.
