| Nope! When I was in the Navy, I listened to music all day long. When I worked at gas stations, I wasn't allowed to, but I did anyways as management never checked in on me. When I worked at Wal-Mart we weren't allowed to listen but I always hid my headphones under my long hair. When I was working as an auto mechanic, I could listen to headphones. In half of my warehouse career I could listen to music but the other half it wasn't allowed. As a truck driver I could listen to music all day long. Now that I am working at Amazon, I once again can't listen to music as cell phones and MP3 players are forbidden beyond security screening (unless you are management and have it registered). On my commute to and from work I have my talk show podcasts but I manage to get a good 30+ minutes of music listening before I have to go inside the building. My days off are very lazy and I just can't get in the mood for music. My passion for music is at it's lowest right now, I just hope that eventually I will snap out of it. However, either way, no music at work anymore. | |

Same where I work but they don't mind background music in control rooms (I work at a paper mill, it's loud on the production floor and you couldn't hear anything anyway, plus ear plugs are required). Headphones are a big NO NO as there is heavy machinery everywhere and it just would not be safe. Since I work in the lab, music is OK. We normally play the radio. As for cell phones they are not allowed at work but everyone has them and it isn't enforced. Only 2 hourly employees are allowed to use cell phones at any time and one of them is me because I am the Union Vice President. Our Union President is the only other hourly employee allowed to have a cell phone.

Our Union President is the only other hourly employee allowed to have a cell phone. It's been a rule unenforced in most jobs I've had but Amazon is big on it. You go through a metal detector every time you leave the building and if a cell phone of MP3 player is found, you get written up. Happens too many times and it counts against you. I used to hate rules like this (kind of still do) but as was pointed out quite a while back, I need to be an adult and buck up. I'm almost about to chalk this up to why my passion for music has gone, but even in my last several weeks as a truck driver I wasn't listening to music much.

DB, I had the same thing happen to me from about 2008- early 2010. I had a lot of turmoil/change going on in my life at that time and I completely lost my passion for music. Although I did continue to buy new releases, I rarely listened to them. I even considered selling my collection - fortunately I didn't make that mistake. For me, I snapped out of it when I discovered some new bands - Enforcer, White Wizzard, Holy Grail, and Cauldron. Maybe the same thing will happen to you. I do notice that if I am stressed out I can't really listen to music.

I probably spend most of my time watching TV and browsing artwork to keep my mind from it and music just doesn't fit into my avoidance program. I think music triggers memories of what I wanted my life to turn into vs. what it's turned out to be. Just need to be patient for things to work themselves out and I'm sure my passion for music will return in full force.

| I do on my drive since I work all over California, so I get to hear plenty of music on my drive. I could listen to music while working but I prefer to focus on my task because the repairs involve a lot of liability. For a couple months there I had some personal circumstances all but derail my business and I went without music (or pay!) for the whole time. It's very hard to listen here at home with the kids; my oldest loves heavy metal but it's too much for my wife (honestly?? I put my headphones on in the loo lol). But what I love about my job is the driving. I even installed a good stereo and speakers (there's a thread about that somewhere) to heighten the experience. I love it, although sometimes I also love the silence. DB, like Witchfinder I went through the same thing. It comes and goes, but what worked for me is learning to appreciate the music of silence. It's very therapeutic. | |

I'm going through the exact same thing right now, but at least I am employed again! The Journey continues................

| 3 days into fulltime working from home and I'm still not listening to music. Maybe it's because I'm an old fart but I just find that music interferes with my ability to focus on my work. TV on the other hand is just background noise that doesn't bother me. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

See, I am the opposite of that. I can work with music all day long, but if TV is on, my ability to multitask goes way down.

| We have TVs in our breakrooms. Unfortunatly, they are usually turned to sports or news. Also with 2 15 minute breaks and one 30 minute lunch, there's not much time to watch much of anything. | |

| Owning a business should make it easier to listen when working but turned out to be just the opposite. The previous owners had installed a top line in-store sound system but I just don't believe in using it. I did for awhile listen to the ipod in my office when doing orders, inventory, and such. But had to quit that when I had an employee who thought because I did it she could to. I take the management philosophy that says you can't ask others not to do what you yourself are doing. So it is just easier to go without. Working at home or off hours the music goes on. I focus better with it. | |
