This week, somehow I stumbled upon a recent Queensryche live video, and
I am not a fan except for the debut MLP, first LP The Warning, and sometimes Mindcrime.

I must have remembered reading from here on HOM about the band split and a new singer, and wow!
Glad I checked it out.
The new guy nailed Queen of The Reich PERFECTLY!
Maybe better than what Geoff originally did.

If only I knew they were writing heavy metal just like like the early days. Not too into the videos posted above.

Well, that is absolutely a matter of opinion and perspective. Many times, Todd is screaming that note, not singing it.

And NOBODY touched Tate in his prime...not a soul. Prime Tate is like Prime Perry...100% untouchable (IMO    ).

Have to agree with Shawn, Tate may be a DB these days but man, he had pipes.

Yeah, La Torre is great, but Tate was phenomenal in his prime. Think I've said the same thing previously in this thread.

Tate was never my favorite vocalist but you have to give the guy props for being totally unique and immensely talented.

Yeah, up through the very early 90s, his performances and delivery were just so effortless and fluid....just amazing. His tone and personality vocally were just untouchable.

I'm all about '83-'95 QR so what can I say that hasn't been said.

plus he will use the Geoff Tate, formerly of Queensyrche moniker.

I forget where I saw it (probably on Blabbermouth) but the band and Geoff are in negotiation talks over the name. Lookes like someone will be getting paid outright and this won't go to court.

Tate has been alluding to this being the situation now for a while. It's not really a fight as much as a "how do we legally separate" kinda thing.

That said, the only thing that will really change is he won't be able to release albums as Queensryche...they'll have to be Geoff Tate albums...but he'll always bill himself as "The Voice of Queensryche" or something similar...

Still trying to negotiate some sort of settlement...

Looks like Geoff's lawyers talked some sense into him and told him he'd get less money from a court case than if he settles...... I'm sure they also told him to forget about the name too... but probably worked out a "formerly of Queensryche" or "Performing the music of Queensryche" tag line he can use after his name for a number of years.
