Right there with you man. It helps that my passion for music has waned these days, but everytime I come across a cool looking or familiar CD at work (happens a lot working for Amazon and all) I long for my collecting days. Couldn't if I wanted to anyways as I spend nearly $400 on gas every month (practically 33% of my budget) not to mention credit card debt (much of it from CDs), student load debt, insurance, food, and I need to start saving money as well.
First I've said anything here, but I'm between jobs. There are over ten albums I'm dying to grab, but every dollar counts right now.
QFT! Before I got the Amazon job, I was eating as cheaply as I could and when I HAD to drive I would go 50 MPH (on the highway!) just to use as little gas as possible. While I don't plan on ever losing this job anytime soon (like I actually planned on losing any of the jobs I've had), I don't want to get stuck unemployed without any income again.

Yeah, my situation isn't bad but my house has a 30 year old boiler heating the place and I realised that if it does finally cough and roll over, I don't have the money to replace it and it's unlikely that a kick ass Celtic Frost collection will keep my ass warm this winter!
Sorry to hear about your situation Shay but you seem like a really capable guy, I'm sure things will be on the up soon dude.
Dallas, at least you are not in the U.K, if you were those gas bills would be double what you pay now!

Pretty Maids - The Best of...Back to Back
Thought I'd dip my toes in their dirty water and see what they have to offer. I threw in a half-hearted bid on ebay, not really expecting to win, but what do you know?
Not bad, but the middle-era stuff gets a little heavy-handed with the keyboards. I'm going to assume that's material coming from the 80's. The guitar-oriented stuff fares much better and sounds less dated.
Don't know that I'll be plunging head-first into any other PM material in the foreseeable future, but this disc should keep me entertained for a little while anyway.

Oh, I know. I was in the Navy in 1999-2003 and when I was overseas and saw gas prices, I thought well, it's not too much more than us, then realized it was by the liter, not the gallon. And that was over a decade ago.
For me it doesn't help that I have a gas guzzling truck. A smaller vehicle would save me a lot of money (but then I would have a car payment so wouldn't save anything, probably pay the same, or spend even more).

Even at my lowest ebbs financially, I don't think I've ever been able to completely give up the music bug. I've been fortunate to be in pretty ok condition on the money front lately, but some serious debt reduction needs to be taking place in the near future, so it'll probably be winding down to a much more modest level for the next year or so.
Hopes for everyone in a bad patch for better fortunes on the horizon.
My last big haul was an early b-day gift to myself that will probably be the last big splurge for the year. Picked up the La Vie Electronique volumes by Klaus Schulze that I didn't already own along with Defiance's Insomnia set. The Schulze is a conscience purchase. I love the guy's stuff and years ago scored his discography via some... ahem... nefarious means on the web in high quality. At this point, that material is all out of print and wildly expensive, so I buy his outtakes collections so I can be satisfied that I threw in my contribution for the music I dig anyway.
That ALMOST makes up for torrenting his stuff, right? Right?!

^^Thanks for the wishes Joe & Runicen. Good things are on the horizon.
I do have some stuff I'm gonna trade in tomorrow, maybe get ten or 15 bucks trading credit, and peruse the .50 rack at Rasputin. And I still hit up Goodwills. So that helps curb the need-to-buy-frenzy.

Good luck. I hope things turn around quickly for you!
I've sold many, many cds when I have been unemployed. I haven't had to do that for many years, but I always looked at them as being readily fungible and a decent store of wealth if needed.

^^Thank you WF. It should be fairly soon; thankfully some opportunities have been at the ready.
I'm trying to avoid selling any part of my collection (especially considering it's rather new) but, with a family and all, if it ever came down to it I would. Right now things are okay since we've been pretty much prepared for this kind of thing.

You like Schulze???? Cool! I have his stuff up until X and then a boxset that a friend burned for me many, many years ago(either the Silver or Historic Edition). Big fan of 1970s(and some later) Electronic Music. Mirage is probably my personal favorite with Timewind not far behind.

Metal Massacre 2 Metal Massacre 3 Metal Massacre 8&9 Metal Massacre 10 Metal Massacre 11 Metal Massacre 12
I bought these as a single lot on ebay. I only wanted 10 and 11 (I already own all the others except 12), but the price of this lot was far cheaper than buying both of those individually. MM 12 is a complete piece of crap released in 1995 which I didn't want. I'll keep it for historical purposes I guess. Anybody need MM 2, 3 and 8&9?

Hicks, I've definitely been on the page of having to sell CDs from my collection. Back around 2009/2010, I sold almost everything I owned save for the absolute essentials. Granted, you wouldn't know that NOW from the size of my collection. What can I say? I work fast and these things have a way of making a comeback when things are more flush. That said, glad to hear it hasn't gone there for you yet. Fingers crossed you don't need to go there!

The guy was so damn prolific that I'm still taking in this wall of music. X is a great album, but considering I heard Timewind first, it was pretty shocking. All of the La Vie stuff was either specially composed for one of those box sets, a live improvisation, or something he wrote and recorded FOR FUN.
I'd like to draw attention to this, because the only other guy I know of who does this kind of thing is Bill Nelson - but the guy has enough QUALITY unreleased material to fill 45 CDs. And these aren't just live recordings of his album material either...
I think the La Vie series is all of the material from the Silver, Historic and Jubilee editions (10, 10, and 25 discs respectively if I'm not mistaken) rearranged chronologically in three CD volumes. So far, it's all brilliant. I'm just intimidated by how MUCH of it there is.
Now wait for my head to explode when I try to seriously collect Bill Nelson's discograpy...
