You'd be surprised how some flavors mesh. There's a NW brewery that does a salted caramel stout and it's excellent. Stouts work well with some of these flavors. I do agree they can get crazy and not everything works but hey, it's better then having three options and they all come in Lite.

It's mostly in the aftertaste. I thought this was really good. Lots of vanilla and cinnamon and then the pepper taste on the finish. Very interesting beer. Just like I'd expect from New Holland.

There is definitely an element of that in microbrews but unless it's a flavor I really dislike I'm still a sucker to try it. I find that Evil Twin brewery is the most "out there" for combining flavors in beers but they're also the best at it IMO. It doesn't always work but when it does I think the result is spectacular.

I enjoy their Biscotti Break. Evil Twin is hard to find here, usually have to head to the west side of the state.

Yeah the Biscotti Break is great.

I'm enjoying a weird one tonight, Tallgrass Brewing's "One Eye Jacques". It's a Belgian tripel combined with a stout. It sounds nasty but it's not, it's great. Sadly, Tallgrass is in Manhattan, KS and I'm sure not available up there in "beer wasteland".

I have Toho to thank for introducing me to Belgian brews. Trying other kinds snowballed from that.

I picked up a Maudite this weekend DB because you mentioned it a few posts back and I hadn't had one in a while.

Had a couple great sour IPA's at Thomas Creek Brewery last night.

Oh wow.  A 'sour IPA'???  I think I'd have to pass.

Was in Portland the last couple days and had a PB Porter that was delicious. Goes great with burgers.

Sounds awful to me since I don't like sours at all and I've only recently begun enjoying IPAs (I still don't like "regular" IPAs much, just doubles, triples, blacks and imperials)

I was quite surprised that I liked the sours. So far I've enjoyed what I've tried.

Sours are the one style where my fellow beer-snob friend at work and I disagree.  He loves them; I've hated every one I've ever tried.
