| I am not volunteering, as I don't have the organizational skills to facilitate one. But last year's was fun (despite the 2-disc comp I made never getting reviewed). I had fun making mine and loved the discs I received.
Anyone planning to/thinking of setting up one for this year again?

| I've never taken part in the comp swap, though always thought it was a great idea. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

I definitely feel it's worthwhile. The comps I got last year had a good balance of metal and non-metal, and stuff I was familiar with and stuff I never had heard of (and likely never would have otherwise) that I still listen to.

| Wouldn't mind being part of a new round. I skipped the last one or two due to not having much free time. I'm in if someone takes the reigns for it (I organized one already a few years ago).
You should jump in, Scott. I could hit you up with some Thrash you haven't heard of yet. _________________ You're cancer, you can't be the answer, you're killing me

That's only because you've never been paired up with me. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| These are fun. I have always been turned on to at least one or two new bands. But I had the same experience as Zombiehavoc where the discs I made never got reviewed. Oh well. | |

Anyone planning to/thinking of setting up one for this year again? Too late, you already volunteered yourself. just do it. All you have to do is just start a thread, label it comp swap (whatever number it is) let people join up for at least 2 weeks. Once everyone has joined by your time frame, pair the people up. pretty simple. I'm in, so get the thread started. _________________

I failed. I always like the idea of the compswap, but something always comes up and I never get the discs reviewed. I have learned my lesson this time and stay out of any new ones.

| No one that has posted in this thread was the recipient and non-reviewer of my comps last year. I don't think I've really seen him post much any more here recently. It doesn't matter anyway--wasn't really a big deal, I definitely understand things happen.
Just, you know, if it's in the parameters of the comp swap deal. And I like the reviews aspect. But maybe as Corplhicks suggested, we do the comp swap but without the stipulation that a review is expected (of course, people can review/comment on the comps they get if they want).
I started a new sign-up thread (it's in the regular Heart of Metal section. Correct place? I'm not sure). Here: http://www.heartofmetal.net/t20531-comp-swap-xiisign-up-sheet-and-such#586150

Basically you get paired up with another member who has signed up. Then it's up to you two to communicate/exchange mailing addresses/determine how many discs to make eachother and such. And then just make your comp CDs and mail them to your comp swap brother/sister.

I think the review aspect should be kept. If someone's gone through the effort of putting together a comp for you then I feel it's only fair that you do them the courtesy of giving your thoughts on it. Obviously it's impossible to enforce and sometimes life gets in the way, which is understandable, but for me the review is an important part of the concept. Anyway, I'm off to sign up. Since last year I'm acquired a lot of stuff I wouldn't mind inflicting upon sharing with others.

The Secret Santa would've been fun too. Of course there's always the change of getting someone something they have (a higher chance for some here), but you know.

The intro to the first song on disc one was kinda overlong, but once it got started it rocked!!!

The Secret Santa would've been fun too. Of course there's always the change of getting someone something they have (a higher chance for some here), but you know. This is true, and you've made me realize something important... I was going to sign up for the comp swap and then realized that my collection is pretty mainstream. Most people here most likely have everything I have. I mean, I have some obscure stuff like Forte, Fear Not, and Heathen, but the majority of it are major label metal bands since I only recently decided to rebuild my collection. So I guess there's a risk involved and I hope no one would mind if I sent them a comp with stuff they've already heard and owned. Thoughts?

Plus, I don't feel like it has to be 100% metal. The comp I made last year was metal, glam, psych, garage, punk, folk...and the one I received ran the gamut as well. So if you have other stuff...which I've seen you discuss other non-metal bands before...throw some non-radio tracks from non-metal bands on the comp. It's just for fun, so.

I felt the same way the first few times this thing happened years ago. I thought my collection was too "common" for most of the folks here so I declined participation. When I finaly did decide to jump in, I was fortunate enough to find enough hidden gems in my collection to keep my swap buddies interested. Or so they told me. It's fun if you have the time (I don't anymore) and well worth it. You never know what might click with others or yourself until you try it. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.
