It's unfortunate that this happened to a great many Christian straight- or pop-metal bands. The AOR sound was huge with the Christian industry and the style of music in the church was getting very poppy so the bands were following suit--all "in the name of Jesus." I mean, c'mon. I think that a lot of the problem is due to the fact that the Christian rock community is so stinkin' small. For a lot of "Christian" bands to stay relevant they have to cater to the current trends. At the time that Halo, Legend Seven and Whitecross were popular, so was Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Journey and and other watered-down pop-rock drivel. There was and continues to be major pressure on the record companies to sell albums in a competitive market so they have to stay abreast of current trends. Even though the small Christian labels are usually owned by the big boys like Sony, Atlantic, BMG etc., the small labels have to justify their existence to stay in business. The end result of that pressure is that bands have to bend to the will of the label execs in order to keep making music. A very recent case-in-point is that other than labels like Roxx or Retro-Active and others that escape me right now, the vast majority of rosters are based on either female fronted hard rock like FireFlight, modern rock like Skillet and Red or Metalcore. August Burns Red, Demon Hunter and Becoming the Archetype is really all the current up-and-coming metal heads know if they stick to listening to only "Christian" bands. I like Journey and Night Ranger but I get what you're saying. Christian rock bands like Holy Soldier also had to update their sound due the popularity of Grunge and they broke up soon afterwards as a result. Bride also went Alternative with "oddities" and then nu-metal with Fist Full Of Bees

Bride also went Alternative with "oddities" and then nu-metal with Fist Full Of Bees Exactly! And this is rather sad because Steven Patrick's (Holy Soldier) Red Reign album and Bill Menchen (Titanic) could not get their music played because it was not "trendy" enough for the times. I am not slagging the aforementioned bands, just using them as an example of the then-current dominant musical style.

| Another example is Disciple, nowadays they're sound is more akin to pop-punk bands like Fallout, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Green Day, etc, a far cry from they're early works. | |

| There are bands who got better, like Petra, Skillet, POD. Of course, Petra is the only one I really enjoy. | |

Petra hit their peak from "never say die" through "wake up call." I at least like everything they've done, though.

- Phil Anselmo pretty much stank it up on everything after Pantera IMO. Sure Down had a few good songs but for that lineup I think it was TERRIBLE!!
I liked the Superjoint Ritual albums back when they first came out. I haven't heard them in a while, so I can't promise they would have grown up with me. But even though I liked them, they were definitely no Pantera. On a related note, I did not like Damage Plan at all, and I do not care for Hellyeah one bit.

| I like Hellyeah and Damage Plan, Superjoint Ritual sucked major ass though, i've always found Anselmo to be one of the most overrated vocalists of all time. | |
