Motorhead icon Lemmy has been advised to retire, he admitted soon before cutting short the band’s performance at Wacken on Friday. BraveWords report that he told the crowd that experts had told him to quit, but added: “We’ll have to see about that.” Meanwhile, Slash paid a visit to Lemmy yesterday and tweeted: “He’s doing well. There’s been a lot of rumours but he’s in good shape, and finishing Motorhead record now.”
I don't like thinking about a world without Lemmy, but everyone's gotta pay the piper. In the meantime, here's the track list for their upcoming 21st (!) album, Aftershock.
01. Death Machine 02. Heartbreaker 03. Coming Back To You 04. Going To Mexico 05. Courage 06. Queen Of The Damned 07. Lost Woman Blues 08. Crying Shame 09. Paralyzed 10. Dust And Glass 11. Coup De Grace 12. Silence When You Speak To Me 13. Knife

Yup. That's why I'm really hoping to catch Black Sabbath this weekend. Who knows if it will be the last time to see Tony. Or Ozzy for that matter. Geezer seems to be holding it together well enough. I didn't think seeing Heaven & Hell a few years back would be that last time to see Ronnie, but there you go.

The great thing about music is that there will never be a world without Lemmy, or Ronnie or Lennon or Hendrix
Lemmy has to do what he has to do, I very much doubt that he has the ability to retire and would worry more if he had nothing to occupy his time and talent. Look what happened to Jeff Hanneman when he couldn't make music.

From Motorhead's official FB page. European gigs have been postponed till next year so Lem can recuperate fully.

I have to sadly let you know that Motörhead has had to postpone the forthcoming European tour until early next year, 2014.
We have made the decision because I am not quite ready to hit the road yet, and am working my way back to full fitness and rude health. Don't worry - I'm not about to start promoting veganism and alcohol-free beverages, but it is fair to say that I personally have been reconfiguring areas of my life to make sure I can come back fitter and stronger than ever.
It disappointed me tremendously to have to say I wasn't quite ready to hit the road yet, but not nearly as much as it would've disappointed me to go out, play some average shows and watch my health give way long before the tour was over! When people come to see a Motörhead tour, they expect a Motörhead show, and that is exactly what you will get as soon as I am fit and ready to rumble.
Your patience and understanding is appreciated...and know that I'm getting stronger and stronger every day, so watch out next spring Europe and we will see you then.
Thank you all,
Lemmy

At this rate, Lemmy will be lucky if he's around next year. His lifestyle choices are catching up to him real fast.

Lemmy health update...
Quote :
"[Lemmy's] been up and down," says Todd Singerman, longtime band manager. "He's got a really bad diabetic problem, and it changes on a daily basis. A lot of it is just fighting the bad habits, the things that he's not supposed to do anymore. He's stopped smoking, but he probably sneaks Jack and Coke here and there. He'd be lying to you if he said he stopped. He's been trying to substitute it with wine, and I'm sure he's slowed down on the speed. He thinks wine's better than Jack, but it's still got tons of sugar, you know? He doesn't grasp that he's just trading one demon for the other. That was the compromise with the doctors, by the way — trade the Jack for the wine. But he doesn't tell them he's drinking two f*cking bottles, either. These are the battles we're up against. Keep in mind, he's been doing all this stuff on a daily basis since Hendrix. And it's coming to roost. It's sad for him, because he's gotten away with this stuff for all this time.
"I made them cancel [the European tour], because Lemmy's not ready," Singerman explains. "He didn't wanna cancel. But what was gonna go down is what happened in Europe over the summer. See, he f*cked up in Europe. He was supposed to rest for three months, and he refused. He ended up doing that show [Wacken Open Air in August], which he wasn't supposed to do, and it ended up being 105 degrees "Out there. He's playing direct in the f*cking sun. The only thing I'm proud of him for is stopping when it didn't feel good. That was smart of him. The bottom line is that he needs to find a balance and then live that balance for a few months. But we can't find the balance yet. He has great days and then he f*cks it up. And when you f*ck up, you go backwards."
C'mon, Lem. Pull it together, dude.

This is the thing, I really doubt that he has any idea how to live any other way. What's he going to do? Become teetotal and move to Bournemouth (where old British people go to spend their last years by the sea)?[/quote]

There was a rumor circulating around a few years ago that Amy Winehouse died because she quit everything and her body went into shock from NOT having any intoxicants corsing through it. Sadly, I think the same thing would happen to Lemmy.

MOTÖRHEAD has been forced to cancel its previously announced European tour, originally rescheduled from last fall.
"It is with great regret that MOTÖRHEAD has to announce the cancellation of their European tour, scheduled to start February, 2014," reads a statement from the band.
"Many concerted, diligent and focused efforts were made by founding member, and international icon Lemmy Kilmister to deal with a range of health issues relating to diabetes. While there has been undoubted progress, Lemmy and the band were advised by doctors that it was still too soon to resume full touring activities, and so for the good of the future, the band and Lemmy reluctantly agreed to cancel.
"No one is hurting more over this than Lemmy, and he feels the aggravation and inconvenience of every ticket, and every method of transportation, already paid for by loyal fans in anticipation of the tour. Being a road warrior of over 50 dedicated, non-stop years, it is equally distressing for him to be unable to occupy the top lounge of the trusty tour bus (his spiritual home) but Lemmy recognizes that his long-term health must win. It goes without saying that Lemmy profusely apologises for inconveniences caused, but he does want everyone to know that he is continuing on the road to a full recovery, and that the prognosis long term is very good."

That's a shame. I hope he can recover but he's gotta make the lifestyle changes and at this point it may be too late. Like Boris said, there's no other way he knows how to live. The tiger can't change his stripes.

If I had the choice between a touring Lemmy that drops dead somewhere on stage or a stay-the-hell-home Lemmy that maybe sticks around this earth long enough to record a couple more albums I'll go with the latter.

In a sad and sort of depressing way, I've come to terms with what could be the end of the line with Lemmy and ultimately Motorhead.
Watching someone on a slow decline towards the end, it somehow makes it a little easier to accept that the person will not be around forever than if they just suddenly went away without warning. You will always retain those memories and remember them for the contributions and impact they have made to the world and to you personally. At least you have the time to thank them and maybe even say good bye. You gradually make peace within yourself so when the end finally does come around, it hurts a little less.

If Lemmy does not get his diabetes under control it will kill him. It's just that simple. You have to make changes to your lifestyle or you will have a rough time. Routine is a diabetic's friend because it makes the disease easier to manage. Life on the road would make that difficult, but not impossible. I say this as someone that gives himself 4 shots of insulin every day.

From what I understand, Diabetes almost killed Bret Michaels a few times during Poison's drunk-as-a-skunk heyday till he finally got his sh*t together... and he's a lot younger than Lemmy.

Diabetes certainly doesn't have to be a life-threating disese if you handle it properly. But that's a big IF in Lemmy's case.

Apparently Motorhead just booked a festival here in Jacksonville, so he had better be banking on getting better...that is, making actual changes to make that happen.
