Night Birds- Born to Die in Suburbia CD WW4- demo tape (a doubt many, if any, will care, but this is the new band from a few members, including the singer, of late 90s straight edge hardcore band Floorpunch...it's good stuff)

I like those guys and I have both of their albums. They have a touch of Rush and Nektar in their sound.
The keyboard player formed another band named Ad Infinitum that was really good neo/retro prog with two singers and lots of harmonies that mined the Yes and Genesis vein with a dash of early Ambrosia and a pinch of Wish You Were Here Pink Floyd....... with a Roger Dean cover to boot.
I HIGHLY recommend this album.

Oh bugger! After re reading the thread on the official release (which isn't out until December!) I have realised that I've bought a bootleg!

So I found this treasure cove of box sets, well collections really, on Amazon known as the Original Album Series, or Original Album Classics, or some variation of that. They're physically truncated discount collections of 3-5 albums from a specific artist. The CD's come in a cardboard sleeve (a replica of the original vinyl jacket) with no protection and no booklets. From reading up on them (very little info on the interwebs), they are not remasters but in fact the original recordings. So I ended up purchasing Sodom's set--Obsessed by Cruelty, Persecution Mania, This Mortal Way of Live, Agent Orange, and Better Off Dead--for 25 bucks. Turns out Steamhammer issued it in this year. I recently purchased the two-disc "special edition jerk-off" of Agent Orange, much to my chagrin (see the thread here regarding CD packaging quality). I decided to compare the title tracks of each. My findings were interesting:
Top is original, bottom is remaster.
Anyone else know of these sets? There's a ton, including some great jazz and pop titles. The Sodom was expensive; I was able to score Pantera (five albums) for 14 bucks. Just search "original albums" in Amazon Music. Yeah, you don't get the swag, but I'm just trying to rebuild my collection without all the crappy remastering shit.
EDIT: that is one shitty screenshot, but you get the idea and I'm too f*cking tired to edit another one.

Interesting, I was tempted to buy this as it's cheap enough but am worried that it will be a crappy remaster thing.
If this original album classics series is the same kind of thing but with a guarantee that they haven't been messed around with then it can only be a good thing.

These Original Album Classics collections are usually released with whatever the most recent mastering is. In a case where the original label hasn't reissued the title since the 80s or 90s there's a good chance it will be the original mastering. If the album has been reissued in the past 5 years it will most likely be that mastering. There are no guarantees, though you can look up the individual titles and see the last time they were reissued.

Nice! Pretty surprised someone else has heard of these guys. Until the other day, I wasn't even aware they had released anything but Kingdom Of Ends (a great album), so this was a nice find.
I'll definitely check out that other album. =)

That was the interesting thing, the Sodom disc doesn't represent the latest master, which was released in 2009. I checked out the Scorpions. Checked out the levels on the Pantera set as well; the latest issue of Vulgar Display was brickwalled, but the one in the box set matches the mix of my original pressing. Needless to say, it's confusing.

Jesus. These Roadrunner sets are all original masters. Here's a list of what's available (none of these run over 25 bucks and are about six CD's apiece):
King Diamond Sepultura: Max Years Obituary Deicide Fear Factory Type O Negative Life of Agony Coal Chamber

To me that sounds like a Yes/Asia hybrid; not something I'd turn off but not something I'd seek out either.

Well, members of both bands play on the album, so that's not far off the mark. And everything is written by Billy Sherwood, who of course was in Yes for a bit and has ties to various projects featuring Yes members.
Either way, I loved the first album, so I expect to like this one.
