I also like the sheer bizarreness of this:

Not to mention the album cover is all kinds of creepy.

I know you all are going to disagree here, but I say Seventh Angel was a perfectly wonderful death metal band. High pick is Dr Hatchet.

I have very little experience with death metal, but I absolutely love this track (especially this live version)
Demon Of The Fall
from the same concert DVD (The Roundhouse Tapes)

Growing up here in Tampa, and being in my 20's during death metal's reign, I saw many of these bands live, I have to admit outside of Death, it took me awhile to get into these bands because of the cookie monster vocals.
But I got to see lots of these bands, most of the places they played were small and held maybe a 100 at most. Very cool scene to have witnessed, I would count myself as part of the scene, but I did enjoy the concerts.
We all took for granted back then.

Eh, I think Seventh Angel was more thrash than death metal. I agree Dr. Hatchet is a killer song though.

I always viewed them as an awesome hybrid of doom/thrash. I guess their vocals are borderline death at times. Anyway, their music rocks!

You are both correct. But I am sorry, they are death metal.

Its very hit or miss with me. If I like it, I absolutly love it. If I don't like it, I hate it.

Been playing the new Wormed a lot and it smokes. The drum sound is a little strange but overall this is really good.

Sure. I'm not huge into Death Metal but the riffs here are awesome. This isn't that far from Sodom to my ear.

Early Sodom is very, very, very much borderline death metal. Perhaps we could say the same thing about Kreator too but I suppose we'd be splitting hairs.

more people need to hear The Chasm. (link in the second reply to the thread, first page).
I mean, if you like Dismember and Sodom and stuff like that, you know. Only one of the most overlooked bands going now.

They aren't truly sub genres. Death Metal would be the sub genre. "slam", "brutal", "melodic", "technical", "progressive", etc... these are just descriptors of the style in which the sub genre is played.
