I agree with Freddy.  I used to think "Moving In Stereo" by the Cars was kind of boring.  After that scene in Fast Times At Ridgemont High, I've never heard that song the same way.

Side note, Fast Times also came up during our weekly team meeting last week.  Apparently one of the production ops guys talks just like Spicolli.  I wasn't involved in the actual incident but the people who were kept saying stuff like "Then Spicolli said...".  So I finally asked if we actually had an employee named "Spicolli" and everyone started laughing that no, we didn't but this guy sounded just like him.

"Hola Mr. Hand!"

Agreed ! DC's animated films are fantastic. The theatrical...not so much.

Did people forget about the piles and piles and piles of money that Nolan's Batman trilogy brought in? I'm sure DC is at least happy with that.

I'm sure DC is happy with that too. But as ar as I'm concerned, their live action movies are somewhat lacking. The Nolan films ranged from ok (Batman Begins) to great (The Dark Knight) to weak (The Dark Knight Rises was a huge disappointment). I have yet to see a poor animated film from them.

Phoebe's finest hour was the pool scene in "Fast Times." End of discussion. Very Happy

As for the DC live action vs. animated discussion: Maybe they oughta put the team from the animated films in charge of the live action division. Just imagine, if the "Batman: The Animated Series" crew had been given the keys to the live-action series in the 1990s, we could've been spared the horror that was "Batman and Robin!" Laughing very hard

I've not yet seen Dark Knight Rises, but when you see Marvel churning out intelligent, quality adaptations, one wonders why DC stops at Batman.

"Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning" (2004)

I haven't seen the previous two films in this sisterly-lycanthrope saga, but thankfully familiarity with them isn't really necessary since this is a "prequel" set in the early 19th century.
Two sisters lost in the wilderness seek shelter at a secluded trading outpost, only to learn that the fort has a slight problem with werewolf attacks. There's some pretty cool gore (practical effects, no CGI) and nice attention to period detail, but I thought this one was a little slow.  I did enjoy it enough that I'm curious to check out the preceding two films in the series, though.

I've avoided this one like the plague because I really dig the original "Ginger Snaps".

^^^ My wife picked it out at random from the free Encore On Demand list last night... It probably wouldn't have been my choice, but it was an OK time waster.

DC seemed to have peaked in the 70s with their live action material.

Today while cleaning the house, I watched the Phillies beat the White Sox 4-3. Normally, this would have just been background "noise" while I worked but I've come to HATE the main Sox announcer Ken Harrelson so much that I root for anyone against the ChiSox. I loved how this one ended. The Phils had guys in scoring position with 1 out in extra innings and the Chisox pitcher struck out somebody from the PHillies which prompted Harrelson to do his "He gooooone!" call that annoys the hell outta me. Next guy up for the Phillies banged a single and Harrelson had to say "that's the game." HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Man I hate that guy as an announcer.

"Men in Black 3" (2012)

In the third go-round for Will & Tommy Lee, Agent "J" must travel back in time to 1969 in order to save his partner "K" and prevent yet another alien invasion of Earth. While in the past he meets up with the younger version of "K," played hilariously by Josh Brolin. This one is mostly Smith's show, and the time travel angle is fun. I liked this one better than the previous "MiB" but it still doesn't beat the first flick.

Pacific Rim

Serviceable giant monsters vs. giant robots action vehicle, probably most enjoyed by people that grew up watching Toho movies.  The effects are nicely realized and the fight sequences are much more coherent than the usual Transformers blur that is common these days.  All the dialogue and plot elements are a quilt of cliches borrowed from countless action/sci-fi films but as long as you don't take it too seriously it's a fun way to waste 2 hours.

The main complaint I have is that aside from the obligatory Ron Pearlman cameo there really isn't anything in Pacific Rim that is undoubtedly "del Toro", it's a skillfully constructed concept to be sure, but also kind of anonymous.

"Capricorn One" (1977)

Taut suspense/conspiracy thriller about a phony NASA mission to Mars and the lengths the government will go to in order to keep their hoax covered up. Great cast including Hal Holbrook, Sam Waterston, O.J. Simpson (!), Elliott Gould and James Brolin. Features one of the best aerial chase scenes ever put to celluloid.

Peter Hyams! One of my favorite directors and one of his finest films. I'm not a conspiracy nut about staged NASA missions but it's entertaining enough to wonder why these types of plots don't make it to the theater.

Our team at work took a couple hours off from the office and when and saw The Heat:

From the director of Bridesmaids, but a much better flick IMHO - lots of laughs.

"Galaxy Quest" (1999)

The has-been cast of a long-cancelled "Star Trek" style science-fiction TV show is recruited by a race of aliens - who think their TV adventures were real - to help them battle against a real-life galactic villain in this spoof of Trek fandom and sci-fi geekery in general. Funny stuff, with great FX and an awesome cast including Sigourney Weaver, Tim Allen, and Alan Rickman. I've seen this one a bunch of times and it never gets old.
