Thirteen Ghosts, a 2001 remake of a '60's horror flick. The plot was cool and somewhat original, and the movie looked spetacular, for the most part. Loved the fact that they dressed up actors fir hours to portay the ghosts, instead of using cgi. Unfortunately the plot had several huge holes, and most of the actors sucked (whoever cast the live version of Shaggy as the role of a psychic ghost hunter must have had an off day).
All in all I liked the movie better than the ratings over at imdb suggests.

Saw one of Sylvester Stallone's earliest movies today, a flick called Rebel. The movie was originally called No Place To Run, and released in 1973 (even Imdb gets this wrong!). However the movie failed to make impact, so the director re-edited the film, and added some footage, and rereleased it in 1980 under the title Rebel.
It' s an unusual film for Sly, as he plays a terrorist torn between his mission with an underground political groups plans to blow up a NY building, and his newfound love of a young hippie girl. The movie is terribly slow, and doesn't even make much sense, even though the plot should be quite easy to follow. Absolutly one of the most boring films I've ever seen.

"Red Dawn" (2012)
Remake of the semi-classic '80s "Kill A Commie For Mommy" action flick replaces Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen with Chris Hemsworth and Josh Peck, and the Russians with North Koreans, as World War III drops into the Pacific Northwest and the local high schoolers band together to form a resistance group. From then on it's one running gun battle after another, with lotsa sh*t blowin' up, so I certainly wasn't bored.
This movie was totally unnecessary, but I still found it entertaining in a sadistic sort of way.

I still find it hilarious that they changed the bad guys from Chinese to North Koreans in post-production.

If memory serves, they only mention that thhe bad guys are North Korean once in the whole movie, and the character says it from off camera, which means they obviously threw that voice over in during post op.
It happens during a scene of the enemy troops marching thru the streets and you hear Josh Peck's voice say, "North Korea? That doesn't even make any sense!" ... I found that choice of words rather ironic.

"Austin Powers in Goldmember" (2002)
Third (and so far, last) installment in Mike Myers' shagadelic spy spoof series sends Austin time traveling back to 1975, where he teams up with bad-ass superchick agent Foxy Cleopatra (Beyonce Knowles) to foil Dr. Evil's latest scheme and rescue Austin's kidnapped Dad (Michael Caine).
Not as good as the previous two "Austin" films but there is still plenty of immature smirky fun to be had. My fave bit involves a movie being made of Powers' life, with cameos by Tom Cruise as Austin, Kevin Spacey as Dr. Evil, and Gwyneth Paltrow as agent "Dixie Normous."

Did ya hear that SyFy is canning "Warehouse?" Its "final season" next year will consist of six whole freakin episodes. Pffft. I'm bummed.

This one had its moments but I preferred the remake of "House on Haunted Hill" w/Geoffrey Rush and Famke Janssen, that was made by the same production company (Dark Castle).

Yep - that sucks. The show hasn't jumped the shark yet and is still a good show. Six episodes???? They deserve at least a full season. I wonder if the contracts of the actors are up for renewal and SyFy doesn't want to pay them more cash.

I think SyFy is pouring so much of its money into its multi-platform "Defiance" thingy (TV show, online game, etc.) that they can't afford to keep their older shows going...

It's quite funny and I found myself enjoying alot of the musical mash-ups they do despite not generally liking most of the material they cover.
Hearing an Acapella group do Europe's "The Final Countdown" is pretty damn funny too.

Ever since I discovered that full-length cult movies are being uploaded to YouTube thanks to Freddy, life has not been the same. Here's a great example:
Also known as "Lorca and the Outlaws" in the UK, Starship is a 1984 Australian effort, one of the first for none other than Roger "F*ck, I went and made Battlefield Earth" Christian. This one stuck out when I wa a kid at Family Fun Video Rental because of the glorious and majestic VHS cover art coupled with an enigmatic tagline:
This is the truncated US version which has Tony Banks' (!) original score replaced with a generic library synth. The pan and scan here was reportedly performed by a lazy hand; some scenes are almost incoherent due to poor framing or incorrect targeting. Sources describe the UK uncut version much better.
Best of luck in figuring out the actual name of the robot kid.

Happy to be of service.
When I started finding all of those oldies but baddies on the Tube, I went crazy, there were so many that I wanted to watch ("Oh cool! I wanna see this! Damn, they got this one too? I haven't seen this in 20 years"!) that I had to start writing them down. I keep the list next to the computer, and there are several dozen movies on it now that I will plow through whenever I have time.
